This is SmallDog Rescue's Daily & Critical Care Unit

These pages were updated on August 30th, 2010.

SmallDog Rescue is one of the few local rescue groups that takes in very ill and senior dogs. We believe these dogs, too, have a right to be rescued. If they must die, we will usher them over the Rainbow Bridge with dignity and compassion. Our hope, of course is to make them as healthy as possible, then help them find their forever homes.

Myrtle

Update: Upon reassessment it was decided that Myrtle does NOT need surgery! She may need it down the road but for now the vet decided he would rather not risk any additional problems since she limps but isn't demonstrating any pain.We have discovered that Myrtle needs patella surgery on her left back knee. She has a luxating patella, which means that her patella slips out of place and she can't bend her leg. It is very uncomfortable and hers requires surgery to remedy. It will cost $700 to repair her leg. We have created a ChipIn page to track the funds we have raised in real time. Any amount helps! Please click here to help this cute little lady out.

Oscar Octopus

We have raised enough funds to cover Oscar's treatment. Thank you to all that contributed! Oscar Octopus should have been put down at Animal Control. Dogs with heartworms do not get a chance when they end up there. For some reason, no one had euthanized Oscar yet and SDR found him and decided his life was worth saving. His treatment costs about $300.00 and we are raising funds to get him healthy and ready for hhis future forever home. Every and any amount adds up. We have created a ChipIn page to track the funds we have raised in real time. Any amount helps! Please click here to help our sweet Oscar out.

Brownie Burger King

Update: Brownie had his surgery last month and is doing well. We raised about $250 of the $700 it cost, so we could still use your help!Brownie Burger King is a cute chihuahua mix that came to us in December. He went to a foster home a few weeks ago and his foster mom suddenly noticed his hips were crooked. Xrays and evaluations revealed a torn left cruciate. Brownie needs surgery to alevieate the pain and discomfort he feels. This sweet and happy boy will be so relieved when he can run, play, and jump again without trouble. To help out with Brownie's costs, which will total $700, click here.

It's raining SmallDogs!!

May 2009 (Feb. 2010 - We still have several dogs from this group of puppy millers):

SmallDog was just asked to rescue as many dogs as we could handle from a commercial breeder who closed. By rescuing these dogs, they will never, ever be used purely for breeding purposes again or live every day in a small crate. They will be transformed with much TLC into loving companion dogs. We accepted 36 of these dogs. Their vet needs include spay/neuter and vaccinations for each dog, as well as more extensive vet care for many of the dogs. These vet procedures included: emergency surgery for Pyometra(Uterine infection requiring surgery) in 3 dogs, reconstructive penile surgery in 1 dog, extensive dental procedures and tumor removals, etc. These dogs are feeling better and better each day. And, the cost to get them cared for properly is very high. Donations to help pay our vet bills are needed and appreciated. It is quite the miracle to see these little ones adapt to going for walks, getting up and down steps and furniture, and enjoying being held, caressed, and loved. They are all so very appreciative, of even the smallest pleasures. These dogs are just learning the joy of things that many of us, and our dogs take for granted.

Donations are needed to cover the medical needs of these dogs. If you can help with any of the medical bills for these dogs, please mail your donation to SmallDog Rescue, PO Box 888570, Atlanta GA 30356 for the DCCU. For your convenience, we also accept credit cards and PayPal. Simply click on the logo at the bottom of this page.
