Riley Update

The picture shows Riley celebrating his 4 year anniversary with his brother and 3 sisters as well as his Nashville
cousin(a rescue) and Lawrenceville, GA cousins. Riley is the one in the center with his eyes closed just relaxing in a line of Bichons.
My wife and I came to the SmallDog Rescue day because my wife's sister, Carol called us and told us about Riley who really needed a
family to rescue him. Riley had been to many rescue days and had not been adopted.
We saw Riley and were told of all the problems Riley currently had. Riley didn't like men, children, could not be housebroken,
was food aggressive, suffered seizures, did not like any other dog, just to name a few. My wife and I felt like we were his last
chance, and we took him without question. He would be our first rescue. Less than a month later, this is the Riley we had. Riley
showed no aggression towards any men. When we took our evening walks, our neighbors three year old granddaughter would come running
up to Riley to give him a big hug. Riley's tail would just wag. I could give her Rileys leash and he would walk right beside her,
even though we had a number of dogs and people with us. I can put my nose right in front of him and all I get are kisses. Riley has
never shown any aggression to any of our bichons and for Riley's anniversary, we had 8 bichons in the house for 6 days.
Riley suffers from late stage heart disease and we have him on two med's for that, a fluid pill and seizure medicine. With all that,
Riley is a very happy boy who is loved by his mom and dad and bichons brothers and sisters. My wife and I feel sure that Riley would
not still be around if we hadn't come along, so Riley is lucky for that. But we are the lucky ones because of the love he gives back.
Riley is on a limited time line now, so we celebrate each day we get out of bed and Riley is still with us.
I'll finish this with one more thing. After Riley, we rescued Lucy, Chloe and Jodi. We now have 5 bichons is our Salisbury NC home
and 4 are rescues. Riley's Aunt Carol who is a volunteer with SmallDog thinks that is a fine trend!

Monteverde (Monte) Update

We wanted to send you a few photos of Monteverde, a.k.a. "Monte," who we adopted on February 28 of this year. We are enjoying him and
would like to hear from the people who adopted his siblings, Manuel Antonio, Tamarindo, and Carrieri. Dog breed test say he is part
chow, part lab and part siberian husky, but all were in trace amounts. He is very spirited, but starting to calm down and mature. A
shout out from him to his mom, Irazu. More photos to follow.

Taffy Update

It's been 5 and a half wonderful years since we adopted our scottie Taffy from SDR, and she's 11 and a half years old and still going
strong. We are moving to Virginia this summer, so she will be embarking on yet another adventure. For sure, this transition will be
far less dramatic than the one from catatonic puppy mill rescue to beloved queen of our household, but she--and we--will be sorry to
leave the great folks at SDR behind. Taffy wanted to thank you for saving her life, and we wanted you to know that because of our
experience with her we will ALWAYS rescue in the future. Thank you and bless you.

DeeDee (formerly Zoe) Update

We've just celebrated our 4 year anniversary with Zoe (formerly DeeDee) and had to let you know that she continues to bring us much
joy and happiness. She has been "adopted" as a playmate for our neighbor's children; who call upon her for "playdates." Our doorbell
rings and they ask if Zoe can come out to play! And, even though she is small, she is protective of her family and home. Thank you
again for giving us such a wonderful addition to our family.

Rosie and Sadie (formerly Tia Maria & Catalina) Update

Just wanted to let you know that our rescue pups have now been with us 3 years. Who would have thought they’d live this long. Goes
to show you what some good loving will do. They come to work with me every day which has really added to their “life style.” Although
Rosie still shys away from affection, she will follow me around from time to time. Sadie went blind about 3 months ago, but she is
adapting fairly well. Since she was a lap dog from the beginning, she waits patiently for Mommy and Daddy to get her bring her
everything she wants. I’ve had a blind dog in the past, so no big surprises here.

Sasha Nicole (formerly Cassandra) Update

Rene and I just wanted to give you an update on Sasha Nicole (formerly Cassandra). Even though we have had her for 6 weeks, She has
adapted nicely to/with her younger brother Cody James. She loves sleeping in her dog bed and really loves car rides. She has helped
her brother become calm when going for a ride to the park or to grandma's and grandpa's house. She has socialized very well with
other dogs. It is nice knowing Cody has a companion to keep him company. A specific "Thank You" to Doris (she is a volunteer) at
Small Dog Rescue for telling Rene and I about the rescue of the 3 King Charles dogs.
Again thank you Small Dog for all the work that you do.

Jamie (James Patterson) Update

I wanted to let you know Jamie (known as James Patterson) is doing so well. We love him so much and he has really taken to our family.
Gracie our Bulldog is enjoying having a friend around, I think she was lonely. Jamie acts like he has been with our family for years,
he behaves so well and we never have to worry about leaving him alone with Grace. When we walk through the door he gets so excited,
it is hard to believe we have only had him a little under two weeks. Glenn and I are so happy that we were able to rescue a dog who
needed a loving home. I have enclosed some pics, we will keep you updated.

Dundee (formerly Kiana) Update

Dundee (formerly Kiana) has been a joy to have as my dog. She is so smart and loving and even tolerates the kitties sitting on her sofa.
I am very grateful to Small Dog Rescue and New Leash on Life for this wonderful addition to my home. She loves her big backyard and
watches me dig around the garden. A large bank of shrubs has become Dundee's Lair where she hides from the hot sun. Both my vet and her
groomer have commented on her perfect manners and gentle nature. Thank you so much for rescuing such a loving dog and keeping her safe
until we found each other.

Mollie (formerly CathyLane) Update

Mollie (formerly Cathy Lane Dec 2007) Osa (April 2009) I loved adopting Mollie from SDR and the people so much, I knew I had to become
involved....so I became a volunteer for SDR @ 6 months ago, much to the dismay of my husband. So, you can imagine his response when I
said I was going to be a "foster Mom". Long story short, we fostered one amazing little girl who is in her forever home, and when we
got Osa, my husband WOULD NOT let her go. Even though it was a struggle with the city, she is a wonderful addition in our new family.
The photos are Mollie and Osa crammed in the same bed to snuggle, even though they have their own beds!! Thank You SDR for letting me
be a part of the special work you do, and helping the dogs find their forever homes!

Lacey Grace (formerly Pattee Bob) Update

Hello! We were lucky enough to adopt Lacey Grace (a Westie Puppy) from SDR 3 years ago. She has been an amazing addition to our
little family. Her big sister Maggie – a mini schnauzer – wasn’t really social and the vet suggested that she needed a companion.
What a difference this baby has made in our lives! She follows her big sister everywhere and we love playing outside with them
every chance we get! Lacey is an earth girl who watches birds, butterflies and squirrels. Here are some photos of her sunbathing.

Milhouse(now Scooter) Update
On April 17th, I will have had the delightful company of Milhouse (now Scooter) for one year. I doubt if either one of us could be
any happier. During the past 12 months, the best compliments I ever I received were from my vet: (1) “You can tell this dog is loved”
and my sister, (2) “When I die, I want to come back as your dog”. I love Scooter more than you could possibly imagine. He sleeps
right beside me every night, has his own blanket, sweater, coat, and rides with me on all of my stops. We continue go to the pond so
he can bark at the ducks and be scared by the turtles.
THANKS Small Dog Rescue for everything!

Diego (formerly El Nino) Update

We adopted Diego (right) a year ago last December from Small Dog Rescue. He’s been a perfect companion for Frida. They travel with
us to our cabin regularly in the north GA mountains where we hike trails when the weather is nice…that’s why we never seem to make
SDR events. They love to be where we are & don’t mind long car trips. Hello to Turra (sp?) his foster mom!
He still loves his treats!

Benson Update

I adopted Bensen October ’07. Bensen loves other dogs so much that he has made friends with my grandkid’s mechanical Furr Dogs!
They bark, wag they tails, and play with Bensen. Here they are all guarding the front door together. Bensen loved the snow we had this
year. It was hard keeping him indoors! We are now taking agility classes. He is terrific, learns fast, and loves it! Maybe a future
champion? Only if Mom learns to get it right! Who knows, we are just having fun playing together on all the equipment. Bensen loves to
play and play and play and has many real doggy friends in the neighborhood. Koko sure looks like Bensen, same fur, same body shape, and
size, same face, but Bensen has more coloring. Bensen will be two in June. Koko (formally Boo) is a year older? I guess they could
have the same parents different years! Thanks again for all your hard work in caring for and finding homes for these great dogs!

Lillie (formerly Danielle Stelle) Update

Just wanted to give you an update (and a picture). I LOVE my Lillie (Formerly Danielle Stelle) and, I know the feeling is mutual. She
is the sweetest little dog! She had a really bad ear infection when I got her - brought her to the vet the Tuesday after I adopted her
and had to medicate and clean her ears for a couple of weeks. We had a followup visit last week and her ears are all better. She sleeps
with me and gets so excited when it is time to get in the bed!! As soon as I put her in the bed, she starts playing. Then, she just
quits and gets on the pillow, ready for bed. Thanks to Small Dog for letting me adopt her; we are a match made in Heaven!
P.S. She didn't like the bow in her hair too much so, after the photo shoot, I took it out.

Cali (formerly Calzone) Update

We’ve been meaning to write sooner, but kept waiting for the perfect photo. We’ve adopted Cali (formerly
Calzone) in August 2008 and luckily, soon after, she adopted us. She quickly established her spot on the
couch and still can be found dozing there-all curled up.

So cute! She loves to ‘kill’ her toys, quickly finding the squeaker, removing it, and rendering it useless.
She has some funny games she likes to play. Her favorite is ‘Find the Ball’. After chasing her tiny tennis
balls around she’ll find a place to hide them-the dresser, shoe rack or anywhere it will role under. Then
she’ll gently roll the ball under with her nose and wait. Then she’ll pounce on the ball either catching it or
shooting it to the back. And then of course she sits and looks at us like, “Can you please get my ball?” Her
favorite past time is going to the tennis court and chasing balls. She is quite jealous if when we get there
and someone is actually playing tennis (see photo). She has brought us such love. We didn’t realize how empty
our lives were before she came home with us. We can’t imagine our lives without her. Thank you SmallDog Rescue
for giving Cali a second chance and giving us the opportunity to be a part of it.

Missy (formerly Miss Clarins) Update

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
We adopted Missy aka Miss Clarins, from you October 2008. Missy has flourished into a funny,
energetic clown. She is settling into life on the farm. She has many friends here one of her
favorites is our cat. You can find them sleeping together on the couch or chasing each other
through the yard. She has traveled with us to 4 different states since she became a member of
the family. We love to go trail riding with our horses and Missy & Cowboy love the hiking
trails. She even spent New Years in Gatlinburg, Ga TN, watching the ball drop.

Missy was a puppy mill survivor who has turned out to be the love of our lives. We had many
obstacles to over come because of her puppy mill past and I want to thank everyone from SmallDog Rescue
who took the time to walk us through some of the strange behaviors that we have encountered. Because
of your dedication we have a wonderful addition to our family and Missy finally has a FOREVER home.

Polly Pogo Update

We adopted Polly from SmallDog Rescue in 2006. She is a wonderful girl. We kept her name, Polly,
although now her full name is Polly Pocket Pogo. She got a rescued brother in the summer of 2007, Kevin
Noodles. Like all true siblings, they have a love/not love relationship. They play together constantly,
but sometimes Polly has to correct Noodles for his antics. She can be quite the mother hen. They have a
great life with a big yard, lots of walks, bully sticks and licks a lots, and doggy daycare once a week.
We love them both and can’t imagine our family without them now. Thank you, SmallDog Rescue.

Scooter (formerly Milhouse) Update

I was adopted last April and couldn’t be happier.
Thanks to all of you who contributed to my eye surgery. I can now see out of my right eye, but I am still going blind in my left eye and require daily medications.
I sleep with my momma every night, get groomed regularly, and occasionally go to “day care”- which I love.! I got a sweater and a coat for Christmas along with lots of chewies.
I love my forever home.

Rumba Update

ISN’T SHE CUTE? RUMBA HAS CHARMED MY HEART
Hello everyone. I wanted to share with you that I have been so happy to be a part of Rumba’s life she is my traveling
partner and she loves to go for rides in the car. Back in October, 2008 I almost lost her and did not know what was
happening. She began to breath heavily, so the vet took X-rays and referred me to GVS. Rumba had to have her larynx
flushed. She had something logged and come to find out it was from the Nylabone. So she is not allowed to have them
anymore. She has other toys that she likes to play with and doesn’t even miss those bones. I am so glad to have my little
sweet angel back playing and gaining the weight that she had lost. She is such a precious jewel. When we go to the park she
rolls over and wants everyone to pet her tummy. What a little charmer she is, who likes to sleep with me at night then lets
me know it’s time to get up in the mornings by putting her cold nose to my face.
This past Christmas my 20 month grandson was here and he and Rumba played, ran and licked. My grandson has given Rumba a new
name “Ba”. He goes through the house calling Ba.
Thank you for the joy that I am experiencing with her. By the way she does respond to the “Clicker”. Those little legs
can go fast if given the chance.

Suzanne Sugarbaker Update

We would like update everyone on the beautiful Suzanne. Suzanne is now living near the beach and mountains. She is enjoying
her "sister" - they are inseparable. When they are not out hiking in the mountains or running on the beach they are snuggled
up on the couch or in their bed. After only a year, Suzanne now cuddles, loves to be held, sleeps up against our backs, sits
in our laps, and grew a gorgeous long brown coat. As well, her teeth and jaw have been fixed with a small surgery and she has
an amazing smile. We are so lucky to have her.

Napa (formerly Luna) Update

Hi, all!
Just a quick update on our Doggy Daughter, Napa (formerly Luna). We adopted her in October 2007, and she is a
wonderful member of our family! She's a sweet beagle-mix, very loving and very obedient.
She was naturally very shy and a little skittish at first. But oh boy, has her doggy personality come out! She
has no problem woofing at us for attention, to go out, or to come in.
She has a wonderful time playing in the back yard, chasing her toys, munching doggy "cookies", and then napping
on her (and sometimes our) bed. It's not uncommon for her to curl up with us wherever we are. She's the sweetest!

Lulu Update

We wanted to send you an update on Lulu---one of the peke rescues from the puppy mill bust in WV. We adopted her
on November 1 and she is just the sweetest thing. It is so wonderful watching her learn how to be a real dog with
people who love her. She goes to work with me every day and loves the other dogs and people there. We have to be
careful because she gets so excited playing with the other dogs that she has little piddle accidents! She loves,
loves, loves to go for walks and would really love to be allowed to chase a squirrel or a bird. She walks a minimum
of a mile a day and just over the past week she's finally figured out how much fun it is to play with her toys and
her people. And again with the piddle....we're hoping that eventually she'll get used to having so much fun and not
get quite so excited. But even with the piddle, she's super cute and fun to watch.
She has loved the holidays with our family and work family gatherings and has won the heart of everyone she's met.
You can see in these pictures how she's just eating it all up. Thanks to you all for all you do with these wonderful,
deserving dogs.

Matilda (formerly Miss Good Humor) Update

I wanted to send you an update on one of your former little ones. You knew her as "Missy Good Humor" but she
now goes by "Matilda." It's been over two years since Matilda came to live with me and she is happily ensconced
as Queen of the House!
We're living in Greenville, SC now, and she's made lots of new friends at the PetsMart PetsHotel and Grooming
Salon where she's always the belle of the ball. She also enjoys spending the day with her friend Summer (the
white dog in the attached pic) and her "cousin" Rufus (who's tail end is visible in the same pic!).
In short, I can't imagine what life would be like without Matilda. I'm truly the lucky one to have my little
princess, so thank you, thank you, thank you Small Dog Rescue for bringing her to me!

Bucky O'Neil Update

It's been a little over a year since Bucky became a dear and precious member of our family, and we wanted to let
everyone at SmallDog Rescue know that he is without a doubt the most wonderful thing that has happened to our family
in the last year. His naturally calm nature coupled with his keen intelligence leave us feeling like we won the rescue
dog lottery! And what a love bug...so affectionate and sweet--always eager to accept hugs, kisses and belly rubs from
everyone he meets. We also enjoyed seeing Bucky's SDR friends during our visits to adoption Saturdays at Petco and at
the annual birthday party this past summer. All the best,

Q'Bee (formerly Tippy) Update
I adopted my sweet girl from Bren Kyle on July 3rd....and isn't it funny that I can remember the day but not
the year, but it has been about 10 years ago. She was around 2 when I adopted her, so as you can see, she is
getting up in years. She is a cross between a Yorkie and a Chihuahua. (I call her a Yorkiwawa.) She is the
love of my life!
Her name was Tippy when I adopted her, but I call her Q'Bee...short for Queen Bee, which she definitely is. Her
best friend is my Bichon, also a rescue (from a puppy mill in Florida). This is my favorite picture, where she
is using my Bichon as her pillow. (See how well the "Queen Bee" title fits her?)

Here is her favorite position - the "shouldn't you be rubbing my belly?" position.

And here is a close-up of her beautiful face.

We are most certainly a "happy ending"! Blessings on you and your work.

Roxy (formerly Polka) Update

It has been a year since we adopted Roxy (Polka) and we just wanted to drop you a quick note to tell you that
Roxy is doing great and we couldn't have wished for a sweeter dog. Her only issue was going up and down long
flights of stairs, but she got over that in a few days and quickly adjusted to our lifestyle (as well as our
10yr old Westie, Dex).
Roxy and Dex are best buddies and keep each other company during the day. She loves going to the dog park so
she can chase and wrangle all the other dogs (her Corgi genes). We still can't get over how incredibly loving
and smart she is and that she has never shown any signs of aggression. We can tell she is so appreciative to
finally have a loving home. Everyone at Small Dog rescue, from the foster parents to the volunteers, did a
wonderful job getting Roxy ready to live in our home. Keep it up! Thanks!!

Rhett Butler (Formerly Nat King Cole) Update

Rhett Butler (formerly Nat King Cole) joined our family on May 3rd of this year. He was welcomed by his two
Shih Tzu brothers, Nicholas and Chopin as well as his cat cousins, Nero and Bandit. Bandit was a rescue kitten
from a parking lot and he was the first for Rhett to bond with. Seems they knew they shared something special.
Rhett’s nickname is “Happy Dog” because he is truly one happy dog! After a couple of weeks for our oldest to work
out the alpha dog issues everyone has become one big happy family. Rhett, as with the others, has the run of
the house and was perfectly house trained from the beginning. When he joined the others in a good healthy diet
and exercise he has slimmed down by a couple of pounds and our Vet says he is in great health. After several
trips to the groomer (beauty shop is the name they recognize) his coat has turned out to be beautiful and he
loves his bathes!
Rhett is very much a “lap dog”. He loves to be sitting in your lap whether it’s to watch television, read or
anything else where you are still enough to give him a chance to get settled. He enjoys being outside and his
favorite past time is lie on the patio and watch the birds at the feeders and bath. And when the doves come in
to clean up what has fallen to the ground – he just has to get up and run over to greet them. He really looks
forward to his evening walks with his brothers.
Most of all Rhett is appreciative. We truly believe that he knows he has found a home for life. When he’s
sitting in your lap looking up at you with those big brown eyes it is easy to see that he loves us as much as
we love him. We make sure to give all three their own private special times with each of us so know one feels
left out.
I encourage anyone who is looking for a family addition to consider an adoption. It has been a truly remarkable
event for us. Small Dog Rescue is a great organization to work with. We thank each and everyone involved in
the organization for a great experience.

Ethel (Formerly Buffy Summers) Update
Hi there! It’s Buffy Summers. I’m now living in Midtown under an assumed name (Ethel). I had to go "incognito"
after meeting so many fun dogs and cool people at Small Dog Rescue. Be assured, each of dog pals and newly
acquired human friends continues to hold a dear space in my heart. But, I have to tell you the pup paparazzi
can be relentless. I just needed to take a few months away from my adoring fans to settle into my new forever
home.
It’s really fun here! I have my own bed (although I sneak into my Mom’s bed whenever I can – most every night
and when she goes to the grocery to buy me more treats). Life is good. We have a swimming pool and lots of room
to run but I must admit that my water wings are accumulating dust. Even my thick fur can’t protect me from the
chill of the water. I am a delicate flower after all!
For all my pals who are still making their home with Small Dog Rescue, there is a really special human is
coming for you soon. The humans at SDR are the best and they’ll be sure that you get a Mom, Dad and family as
fun as mine are.

McLarney "Family" Update

Milo (formerly Rubin; Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix): Our first SDR adoption. Shy and unsure how to
interact with people at first, he’s now a therapy dog with Happy Tails Pet Therapy.
Piper (formerly Beth; Corgi/JRT mix): Our first “failed foster”. Still a little skittish, but we’re amazed at
how much she’s improved. She’s the sweetest, most obedient dog we’ve ever known.
LuLu (formerly Bren 07; Chihuahua/JRT mix)
Came home with us during last year’s alumni picnic, and quickly became our second “failed foster” (who were we
trying to kid?) She has tireless energy (what else would you expect from a Chi/JRT mix?) but we love her silly
ways. We call her a “circus dog” because she is always begging, on her hind legs, or jumping straight up 4 feet
in the air.

Annie Elise Update

When I saw Annie’s picture on your website – she was looking back at me with those beautiful intense eyes.
Then when I finally met her – that was it! She had me! She’s brought such joy to our home and fit right in
since the very first day. Annie loves:
Keeping ALL the chew and squeaky toys piled up together where she sleeps (namely in my bed) and will lie right
next to them so no one else can have them!
Running as fast as she can through the backyard chasing and wrestling with my other dog Kiki.
Going to the dog park.
Going for long walks on the weekends in the National Forests.
Car rides.
Barking through the window at strangers.
Going to the ocean on weekends trying to catch those darn seagulls.
Late-night treats - making sure she’s first in line.
Giving kisses.
Lying next to me when I’m sleeping making sure that I’m safe

Sammy (Formerly Sparrow) Update

Sammy (formerly Sparrow) is doing just GREAT! He's happy, healthy and for better or worse, very spoiled! We
can't imagine what life was like before him! Attached is a photo of Sammy and our two cats. (Editor's note - sorry,
I had to crop the kitties out to fit the picture). Sammy would love
nothing more than for the cats to play "tug of war" with him and his toys, but they're still trying to figure
out what this creature with the never-ending wagging tail is! The neighborhood kids and dogs ring the door
asking if Sammy can out to play often, so between our kids and the neighborhood families, he's a very happy
doggy! Thanks a million for bringing him into our lives!

Beau (Formerly Fandango) Update

Hello there: So happy to report that Fandango (now Beau) is doing great. At first he was a real escape artist and the
first week did get out the door and down the street into the next subdivision with myself, a friend, our
daughter and grandson after him. I was so scared. We have a completely fenced yard and ONLY take him out
through the deck to the back yard or walk him with the harness. Even had to put up 4 ft chicken wire around
wrough iron fence (looks fine) as he could slip his head and shoulders through fence. Also our other rescue
GiGI obtained from Recycled Pets at the same time could get through. Now they love to romp in the backyard
together.
He is off being groomed this morning. My husband also is crazy about him, has become a big part of our life.
Beau and GiGi love each other and have fun playing tug of war with the stuffed toys. During the day, he lays
by my side or under a nearby desk while I do my computer work. All our windows go to the floor (designed that
way so our previous Buddy could look out). Our family is again complete and we are so happy that Fandango
(Beau) is such a joy to our life! I will send his picture separately taken by our neighbor girl. Hope it is
not too large, don't know too much about pictures on computers. Keep up the wonderful work you are doing.

Hello! It has been awhile since I've updated. I updated my other doggie's rescue group last night, as it is
her 1 year anniversary with me! :) So time for Sir Charlie too!
Charlie (Congo) is absolutely wonderful still. I love him to pieces! :) He is such an amazing dog! It is
coming up on three years that he has been with me. I got my other dog Chloe a year ago, and they are good
buddies. I like that when I have to go out, they have each other! I am sorry I have not been able to help out
more with the group. Work is CRAZY! LUCKILY for me and the puppers, I get to work at home a LOT so they are
always here with me. Thanks for my baby!

Raleigh Update

As you will see in the attached, Raleigh is doing what he does best--taking it easy. I swear I did nothing to set
the stage for this photo--all those toys (6 of them) were assembled by the little guy himself. He does this all
the time and ends up sleeping on top of them--and this is a little bed. Then as we move to another room, he runs in
and grabs more toys for even more beds (even mine). I have tons of dog beds around the house so this has become a
full-time job for him.
Raleigh is just as special today as he was last December, when I met him. He's a really good doggie. I look at him
and inevitably he's looking at me, just waiting for his next assignment. The three dogs are a good little pack who
are remarkable well-behaved and Ral has an established role on the team--he's the "Growler"--and no one cares. I've
decided to call it singing.

Raleigh is a happy camper

Mel Torme Update

You probably hear this a lot but when I say I got the perfect dog for myself, I really believe that. He is
gentle, smart, loving, and a real beauty. His incredible eyes are exceptional and what drew me instantly
the minute I saw him in his cage at Petco. He "talks" with those eyes and most of the time he is just conveying
pure love with them. He is constantly at my side and is always contacting physically by such things as laying
on my foot, sitting on my lap, or snuggling against my side. I have been taking him to the "Play Park" at
Pinckneyville almost nightly but the other people laugh because most of the time he just wants to stick close.
I keep trying though as I think he needs to "socialize". He is extending himself more and more and when he
does find a playmate for awhile he seems to have great fun. I have also invited a couple of playmates into my
newly fenced in yard and he seems to enjoy that maybe even more. One night, I had an over-night guest, a little
Papillon, and one of them had to go out at 1 o'clock in the morning. When we got in, the two of them started
romping in the bed amidst the sheets and pillows. I had to move out and to my recliner as they were having so
much fun, I didn't want to stop their rollicking. They kept it up for about an hour and a half and then resumed
their antics in the morning. Needless to say, I had to strip the bed after that but it was worth it.
I kept the name, "Mel Torme", as Mel Torme was rather a gentle crooner as Mel, the dog, is. I have had fun with
that name, giving Mel many nick-names along the way. When he chewed 2 of my throw pillows his first night, he
was "Mel, the Muncher". (That problem was quickly solved by getting him toys to tear apart and bones to gnaw ).
Another moniker is Melachi , a take-off for Malachi, the Bibical prophet, on Sundays. By the way, I am Christian
and tell all my friends that I have a Christian dog, as well, as he shows the fruits of the Spirit as listed in
Galations-----"love, joy, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control". He also sometimes has the name
Melloki which is a combination of Mel and Loki, the Norse God of mischief and the name of my very first dog.
"Mr. Mel" or "Mel, the Man" also crop up here and there.

Mel has no problem with his house manners now even though there was a time in his first week when there were a
couple of accidents. He tells me when he wants to go out by walking on the back of my legs or if my face is
accessible, insistent kisses. He also gets a long walk first thing in the morning, a short one mid-day, and
another outing either in the doggy park or in the neighborhood at night. It not only helps with his house
manners but gives me exercise so its a win-win.
Mel is still favoring his leg that was broken but is using it more and more. At first, he would only use it
during a slow walk and hold it up when he put on speed. Now, I believe, a lot of this is by habit and maybe
this leg had been that way a long time before he was found. He uses it more and more when he is running with
the other dogs and, I think, "forgets" to hold it up. He consistently uses it to scratch the dirt and doesn't
favor it at all then. I have hopes that it just is going to get better and better but if it never gets 100%
its ok as long as its ok with him. The first day I saw Mel at Petco, I had my arm in a sling so maybe it
helped me to relate to his misfortune with his leg.
Thank you so much for my beautiful little dog and all the precious moments I have already had in these 2 months
and am looking forward to the years ahead that we are going to be spending together.

Oscar (formerly Penguin) Update

We actually renamed Penguin to Oscar! We thought it would be more fitting. He is doing wonderful. He is in love
with Joe's 8 year old daughter Kayla! They are inseparable! He's definitely a spoiled baby! We try to make him
remember that he's a dog, but he won't have any part of it. He's as healthy as can be and has been introduced to
a vet who confirmed he's a healthy boy. Thank you for checkin' in on us. We'll try to keep you updated more
regularly! Thank you,

Lille (formerly Lorna Doone) Update

Lorna Doone is doing VERY well. Her name is now Lillie. She is loving and sweet -- and rarely snaps at any of
us! She is learning to trust our family, but has particularly bonded with my 8-year-old. (She will ONLY sleep
with my daughter!) She loves to take walks, but her most favorite thing to do is eat. She will do just about
anything for a treat. My other dog, Rouzer, enjoys playing with her. They wrestle regularly. He's twice her
size, but she is always in control.
Our two cats tolerate Lillie. She wants to chase them, but they won't comply. They do take cover when she comes
at them, but they won't hide. Sometimes they gang up on her and give her a little swat on the behind. I expect
distant future harmony. It'll be slow, but we're seeing progress.
Lillie is a cuddler, so we all get lots of bonding time. We are thrilled to have found her. She is the perfect
dog for our family. We love our little girl! Please check in any time.

Toby (formerly Dean Martin)Update

Dean Martin now goes by the name “Toby”. He has settled in well and is happy in his new home. He is soo smart
and is doing very well in obedience training. I am also thinking about getting him started in agility training
as well as training to be a therapy dog for kids. My other dog, a 12 year old Bichon; Maggie; took to him right
away. They play well together and they play often. I couldn’t be happier with him. I feel blessed to have
found him. He is a beloved member of my little pack.
Thank you for the work that you do at SmallDog Rescue. And thank you for Toby!

Annie (formerly Veronica Mars) Update

Annie came into our lives about 2 months after the passing of our beloved 16 1/2 year old Yorkie, Murfi.
Although we knew we would soon have another four legged member of the family, we were not expecting it to happen
as soon as it did. We were simply testing the “adoption waters” and waiting for our hearts to slowly heal.
When we arrived at the adoption on Feb 16, we spotted her from across the parking lot. She curled up in my arms
and it was love at first sight. She was recovering from surgery only 2 days before. It turns out that Carrie,
one of our many heroes from Small Dog Rescue, had chosen her at the last minute to go to the adoption.
When we brought her home a week later, she settled in immediately and enjoyed the ‘puppyhood’ she had never had,
playing with her toys, munching on treats and getting – and giving- lots of cuddling, hugs and kisses. We
would seldom venture very far from the yard, since as result of her time alone on the streets, she would lunge
barking and growling at SUV’s, most men and all trucks. Since that time we have watched her blossom into a loving,
energetic, happily adjusted angel. She has gone to puppy school; enjoys long walks with mom every morning and has
made lots of new friends, both people and pets! Her Sunday morning boat rides on our boat - the Annie B (named after
her of course) are the highlight of her week. She spends week days in the office with mom and loves the role of
office manager. And when mom is out of the office, Aunt Linda comes to visit, walk and play!
Annie’s resilient spirit, her energy, her joy and her unconditional love and trust has made our hearts whole again.
She has filled every day with love and laughter; and has been the answer to all of our doggie prayers! Many thanks
to Carrie, Vickie - Annie’s foster mom - and all of you at Small Dog Rescue. God Bless you all!

Silas (Formerly Beignet) Update

This is Silas!!! I adopted him around April of 2006. I can’t express how much I adore this dog. He is a
complete nut! Silas was around 1 year old and 14 pounds when SDR claimed him from a shelter in Jan 06 and
24 pounds when I adopted him. He is now a healthy & steady 33 pounds.

He was always a friendly and happy dog but did not like people in his face and would get a little snappy (like
when I would lean down to kiss him goodnight) but after settling in and working with him for a few months he got
over that phase & I can give him kisses any time I like. This dog is an absolute clown, he howls when I go to
my car and when I come home and is constantly mouthing growly talky sounds at me. I also have another dog Violet
who is 15 years old and Silas is a fantastic companion to her & likes to whip up a little excitement with her at
the drop of a hat in the gentlest way. He is definitely keeping her young! I knew he was the one for me the day I
saw him and Violet agreed.

Kiefer (formerly Kestrel) Update

I adopted Kiefer back in the early spring. I just wanted to give you a quick update on the little guy and
I am including some pictures. He is quite possibly the love of my life :-) He is a total cuddler and at
times we call him the 'slug' because when we want him to get up and go outside or disturb him from one of
his naps he gives us the look like "are you kidding me, I'm really comfortable here!" He adjusted to
apartment living really fast and even enjoyed getting up with me at the wee hours of the morning to study
for exams. He got to experience the 'blizzard' Ohio had in March when we went home for Spring Break. One of
the pictures shows him and the other kids playing in the snow. He had just got a haircut so he is wearing
his nice winter coat to stay warm.
He is vacationing with his brothers and girlfriend Ruby in Ohio this summer (See the picture of the two
of them in their matching outfits), as I am basing out of Ohio for work until school starts. Being around
the other dogs has really boosted his confidence and he runs and plays like any other 2.5 year old. In fact,
when there isn't enough of a ruckus going on for his taste he gets the other dogs going. It took a little
while for him and Dozer to warm up to each other but now they are old friends, and if they every disagree
Tugger jumps in and keeps the peace.

Everyone that meets him falls in love with him. He is the favorite among the neighborhood kids both in Atlanta
and Ohio, and my mom and sister have both threatened to kidnap him from me. I keep telling them NO WAY!!!
Just wanted to say thanks again for everything you, Jessica, and Small Dogs did for Kiefer and me. You are all
truly Angels for these animals. Take care!

Nicky Nova Update

Hi - I just wanted to give an update on Nicky Nova, who joined our family in
August 2007. She's doing great - has won over the whole family with her
antics and sweet disposition. She's gained weight & her coat grew out
beautifully - everyone says she's the softest dog they've ever touched.
Here's a photo - just before her 'summer trim' - as she lurks in the yard
hoping for a squirrel to come her way. Forget chipmunks, birds, and other
creatures, it's all about the squirrels.

Potsie Update

I adopted Potsie last October. I'd like to provide you with a picture of Potsie, just after
coming home from the groomers!! He is doing very well, we go on walks everyday and have made
many trips to Piedmont Park, now that we live closer to the city.
I am looking forward to bringing Potsie by PetCo in Sandy Springs, from where I adopted him from
your group, to say hello. So again, I've attached a recent photo of Potsie, and my new address is below,
for your records.
Thank you so much for everything, I love Potsie so much!!!! He is the
perfect dog!!

Maggie (formerly Magpie) Update
Maggie is doing great. She has adapted well and enjoys playing with toys, her sister Hillary and brothers
Zack and Otto and going for walks on a leash! Her birthday is next Saturday and , of course, we will be
having a schnauzer birthday party with toys and Frosty Paws dog ice cream. The only things she doesn't like
are thunder and fireworks!

Brunsli Update
Brunsli settled in so quickly that it seems he has always been a part of our family. He is sweet and
loving and enjoys being close to our other dog.
When in the house, Brunsli sleeps much of the time but when he goes out he is active and explores every
corner of the yard. He has selective hearing but always hears the words--"snack", "food", or "outside".
And, he never barks except when I am preparing his food. It seems that he thinks I am too slow getting
the food to him, and he lets me know that I should work faster. He is so funny.
Since our children are adults, our pets are our babies and we enjoy and love having them with us. Brunsli
is so sweet and we are very happy that he is part of our family.
Thanks for giving Brunsli to us.

Gidgette (formerly Carrie Canary) Update

Carrie canary (now Gidgette) is doing GREAT!!! she has put our male shih tzu Gizmo (age 3) in his place - she
rules, ha! most everybody thinks they are twins - he a little bigger and manly faced and bodied - she is smaller
and more girly faced and in the way she walks - looks like shes walking in high heels --- sleeps with us like
gizmo does--- she has fit in perfectly!
she loves riding on the pontoon boat with the wind in her hair but does not care for the water -- she got a
fido float -pink and white polka dots - one of her many gifts she rec'd at the "pretty in pink" puppy shower that
my neighbors/friends gave for her back in march at the Windward Dog Park -- she had a blast and so did gizmo and
all the other dogs that came!!! Our 12 yr old cat, Snowey, even gets along with Gidgette!

Pete (formerly Fonzie) Update
Fonzie is doing great - he's just a joy. We renamed him Pete and he has taken the name really well. Our house
is so much calmer now with Pete in it. He gets along really great with Jake and Sadie and loves the backyard. I
think he is enjoying being part of a family again.
Our main issue has been with his marking (which we expected). We've made progress on that issue but I don't
think it's completely resolved - we just don't set bags on the floor now - it removes the temptation. We just
cleaned the carpet again, so I guess we'll see if the marking starts up again or if there's still just enough
scent for him to leave it alone.
He absolutely loves his footballs. He likes the other toys, but footballs apparently are the best. It's sooo cute
to watch him try to figure out how to pick up the second football when he has the first football in his mouth.
He has to take one to bed with him at night. He is a nut for toys! Since he kills the squeaker, we're on the
third set of footballs. Good thing Petsmart has a supply of them!
He is also just the biggest lover I've ever had in a dog (even more than Sadie the pug). He will get up on your
lap, put one paw on each shoulder and nuzzle his nose under your chin, then fall asleep while you pet him. It is
the sweetest thing ever. A regular evening ritual has me on the couch with Pete lying on my knees, Jake at my
feet, and Sadie on my lap. We can't imagine life without Pete. He has really completed our family.
Thanks so much for helping us find each other.

Tisza Update
Tizzy is well settled, she loves our big fenced in backyard, and is getting very good and standing on her hind
legs to greet you and ask for food. She is a lot of fun. The only thing that we could ask for would be more
food coupons for science diet, since that is what keeps her happy. Thanks,

Charlie Pace Update

I would say things are going great. He had a bit of a rough time shortly after coming to live with us. I had
an older boy, Seymour, whom I had to put down in mid March. While Charlie and Seymour did not socialize a great
deal, due to Seymour's age mostly, they were companions. Once we lost Seymour, Charlie begame quite agitated and
easily spooked, and we had him on Prozac for a short time to help calm his nerves. I adopted another litte girl,
Sally, about three weeks ago and he is really beginning to settle nicely with her. He's a charmer, no doubt.
Loves to go for rides and walks. Really he loves anything that involves people! He's very social, and I am so
thankful for that.
I have included one of my favorite pictures - Charlie is cogitating jumping onto the sofa...which is not allowed.
He sleeps on my bed with me, but the dogs are not allowed on the furniture in the common area.
He really is a pleasure to love.

Chianti Update

We are both doing great. At first he was a little hesitant, but everyday he got better and better. He's a completely
different dog from when I first got him. Chianti is so energetic and always happy. I love coming home to him, he's
always so excited to see me! He's extremely spoiled, he has a whole wardrobe! He goes pretty much everywhere with me.
He is the perfect dog, I love him to pieces.

Chick (formerly Robbie Douglas) Update

My husband David and I were fortunate enough to find Chick to bring into our home in December 2007. We knew
when we found one another that he was special and as you might tell from the photo he is very special to a
great many people. He is at my office everyday and enjoys the company of all his co-workers.
I had only heard that chihuahuas were nervous, tempermental and noisy dogs. Chick is none of these things but
is so much more. In January 2008 we began attending Dog School 101 in Marietta. Many thanks to Sandy and Xalina
for their support in Chicks training and their encouragement in scratching only the surface of Chicks potential.
Many thanks to my husband David for his allowing a "tiny dog" into our home. Also, I try to thank our 15 year old
cat, Mabes, every day for her allowing a "tiny dog" into our home though she does not always appreciate my thanks
or his presence.
When Chick visits his eighty-eight year old Grandmother Geraldine in Florida his feet rarely touch the ground as she
prefers to carry him everywhere we go (even her work) yes she still works three days a week!
Chick and I are working towards certification through the Delta Society and hope to be certified sometime in
September when Chick turns one year old.
Thank you to all that were involved in Chicks formative months before he found his way to our home. We hope Chicks
siblings and parents have found happiness in their new homes.

Kiffling (formerly Louis Lamore) Update

HI everyone, I wanted to update you on the progress of Louis. He has turned out to be the best little guy. He goes
to work with us every day and the customers love him.. He is quite a ladies man as well. We have found that he does
have issues with Men in hats and tall men as well. He is afraid of thunderstorms and lightening. Over all he loves
his new home, he has 1 acre of wooded land to dig as many chipmunk holes as he wants.. We believe he was a hunter
based on the squirell he caught! He loves to be loved and loves the bed!!

Meggie (formerly Calamity Jane) Update
I have been meaning to write to you for a year, to tell you all about Meggie (f.k.a. Calamity Jane), the Westie you
helped me to adopt in April 2007. She is a very happy dog, and I am so glad I adopted her. She sleeps on the bed
with me. She is a little jealous of the cats and growls if they get closer to me than she is. Or she compromises
by putting her head ON my head, so she's the closest! Her favorite outside activity (in the fenced backyard) is treeing
squirrels. I never tire of watching her jump up and down on her 2 hind feet, looking up at the squirrel, barking, "I
nearly got you! Watch out next time!"
She also likes to go see Grandpa and Grandma (my parents) and is well behaved on her pink leash and harness. She is a
beautiful, healthy, happy dog. Thank you so much for your excellent dog program,
- Lee (Meggie's mom)

Milo Meltaway Update

Milo is doing great--it took him no time to make himself at home. I kept his name and actually-small world-I
know his previous owner and was able to get a lot of good information on Milo. I have attached a picture of
Milo and me. I don't dress him often, but he does wear PJs. He is much more calm and relaxed and snuggly when
he is in clothes. It's part of our nighttime routine.
Take care and thanks for checking in.

Jack (formerly Michael Douglas) Update

I was just thinking this week that I should send you a note and let you know how successful our adoption was. Michael
Douglas did have a name change, it just wasn’t working for us. His name is Jackson and he responds to “Jackie”, “Jack Sprat”,
“Jackson Brown”, “Jackie Blue” (lol). He is an absolute joy. He and his sister, Andie (our adoptee from the year prior) are
wonderful companions. I had concerns about house training Jack as he had a doggie door at his foster home. He was so easy to
train. I took him out every hour on the hour and eventually tapered off to every two hours , then three etc. It was a long
process but he did well with rewards and within a day knew what it took to get a treat! Jack is a real cuddler and our independent
Andie (3 year old rescue) has now become a cuddler as well as she has no intention of being left out !
I’ve attached some pictures of the dogs for you. Jack is the one on the right in both pictures where Andie and Jack are
present. Thank you so much for the great work that you all do. I’m delighted to tell you that our experience has inspired friends to adopt.

Mandy (formerly Thelma Thumbprint) Update

Hello all. Here are some photos of our lovely dog. Thelma Thumbprint is now "Mandy" and she is doing great. We love this dog and
couldn't be happier with our choice. She settled in so quickly and became a part of our family so fast,
that we were all quite surprised. I expected more of a "getting to know you" period, but this is just
one of those meant to be good things that happen when you least expect it. You guys do an awesome job!
