Nutmeg Update

Nutmeg came to live with us in early September 2009. She had a lot of fun (as did we as we watched her and worked with her) learning about her new house and her new neighborhood. She has met lots of friends in the neighborhood, and definitely has her favorites. Nutmeg has also visited several dog parks in the Atlanta area, and always enjoys the socialization. Her favorite place in the house is the master bed, cuddled between the two king size pillows, tail over her nose always. Toys are now all over the house - balls, toy ducks and squirrels, chewy bones, and toss-ropes. If we are on the computers, she starts in our laps, eager to help, but quickly gets bored and finds a comfortable pillow on the floor next to us to nap. She loves the two walks a day she gets, and she travels each day in her car seat to Greg's office where she serves as the "office manager"! She still makes MONKEY sounds when she gets excited - people are always taking a second look. She has traveled to Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and North Carolina - she enjoys camping and taking hikes in the mountains. We love her so much, and she brings more joy than we ever thought possible every single day. Thanks to all of SDRs staff and volunteers for taking care of our little girl before she found her way into our hearts.

Salma Update

Thank you a million times for bringing me Lucille (Salma) on July 4th... She has become a full blown member of the family and we all love her dearly. We walk a lot and everyone in the neighborhood knows her by name. I can only tell you how thankful I am to have her.

Chompers (formerly Walrus) Update

We adopted Walrus (aka, Chompers) about 4-5 weeks ago and I just wanted to give you an update. Chompers is doing very very well. He seems to love his new home and he immediately bonded with my son. Chompers loves to eat and sleep and just have company around. We have not heard any noise from Chompers yet, so we are wondering if he really does ever bark - but he is so well behaved and just so content and happy in his "dog world" that nothing ever seems to bother him.
Chompers went to vet and got looked over. He is in great health. He still needs his eye medication daily to give him some moisture in the eyes. He could also use some dental work eventually, but overall he is a very healthy pug. We decided to get Chompers a friend, so he was not lonely during the day while I worked. We adopted another Pug, named Lola, from SEPRA. Lola is a 6 year old female who just adores Chompie. They sleep together and walk together and seem to just love each. The closer they can get to each other on the dog bed, the better, it seems.
Here is a picture of Chompers and then a second picture of Chompers and Lola together. All is happy in Pug Land - so thank you to Small Dog Rescue for allowing us to bring Chompers into our home. We love him!

Stuey Update

I wanted to let you all know that Stuey is still doing great. He is so loving and fun to play with...lots of energy! He adores my daughter and sleeps on her bed every night. During the day he follows me everywhere. Right now he is laying behind me in my chair, which is his usual spot if I'm working on the computer. Stuey has lifted the spirit of older dog, Jake, who was grieving the loss of our other dog. We have the best fun watching the two play with each other. You can tell that Jake enjoys Stuey's companionship and Stuey enjoys getting Jake to play with him. Jake hasn't played like that in years. Stuey is the sweetest little dog whom we love very much.

Jheri Redding Update

It has been one year since I adopted Jheri Redding - his name is now Dexter. He has been such an enrichment to my life - adopting him was one of the best decisions I've ever made! He fit right in with the household consisting of me and his feline brothers. Well, he did chase them a little (and still does every so often), but everyone gets along just fine. He LOVES to ride in the car and enjoys going on long walks. And, he accompanies us on family vacations. He sleeps with me most nights, but sometimes likes to lay in his bed in the bedroom. He even likes baths! And he helps me "cheer" during football games (his cheer is more of a singing howl). He is a bit of an attention hog and makes his presence known if I am focused on the cats. Although we had a minor issue with thunderstorm phobia (and 3 destroyed blinds), we are both doing better with that now. He also has dry eye in both eyes, but we have gotten that under control and his eyes are doing much better. I really can not remember how my life was before I got him. He is so well-behaved and laid back - he has never made a potty mistake. I've gotten compliments from the vet's and the groomer's about what a good dog he is. It was obvious he was a beloved pet before I got him, so I hope that whatever journey he went through to make it to me wasn't too horrible. But, I believe that we're a match made in heaven!
Thanks to Small Dog Humane Society for all you do in helping these dogs find loving forever homes!

Buster Update

Valerie & Ron thought they were adopting a Bichon Frise from Small Dog Rescue to play with their dog Zachary, but he turned out to be a Prairie Dog (see picture) instead”. Every one who meets him wants to keep him! He is wonderful.

Billy Shears Update

Billy is doing great! He thinks he is king of the hill. LOVES the porch and backyard. He is literally bouncing around. He jumps up with all fours off the grounds and is so happy. He has learned to play with toys and chases Sam [the previous dog] around the table...very fast!.. Sam and he are having a blast. It is so good to see Sam perky again. And...it is so good to see Billy Bob opening up. He has bloomed. He is amazingly perfect. He sleeps with me and when he gets to hot he crawls over the chair onto the couch. He isn't the one to wake me up... Sam is...Billy holds it until we get up. He's so good and has, as I said, moved in totally! When he turned on his back to Sam and finally let me rub his tummy I knew he thought he was home. He is an arrogant little cuss but the pride of this house. I totally love your organization and how wonderful you are to the animals and also to the people that adopt. Thanks for all your help and being so kind.

Tippy Update

It is hard to believe that we have had Tippy for almost 3 years. This spoiled little "princess" (her opinion!) gets lots of attention, but at heart she remains a fearful little dog who barks at the smallest disturbance, who backs away from strangers, and who will bite your heels as you leave - Coal Mountain doesn't label her a "code red" dog for nothing! In spite of this, there has been real progress. Though totally attached to me, her Mom, she shamelessly begs for tummy rubs from Ed (Dad) and Ellery (Son), and there are now times when she does not bark at them - this as opposed to ALWAYS barking at them. For myself, it was not love at first sight - this hippo-shaped little dog who grunts in her sleep and barks all the time can be a royal pain - but when she displays unconditional love, follows you everywhere, smiles, bats her big brown eyes and insists that you save her from the rest of the world, how can you refuse? We would be devastated if anything happened to her. With the run of the house and yard, lots of toys to chew (we learned our lesson!), and Freddy to harass (she runs circles around him and races him to the door), Tippy's tail is usually wagging a mile a minute. And she is really a little trooper. We have had many changes this past year - packing for a move that never happened, Freddy's failing eyesight and arthritis, and the addition of household members. Nothing fazes Tippy, even when the rest of us are stressed out. Tippy is truly happy and we are her Forever Family.

Millie Update

We adopted Millie about 6 weeks ago and she has captured all of our hearts! She is such a sweet, playful girl. She loves to play with all of her toys and with her family. She loves to go on walks in the neighborhood and at the park. She has made friends with her grandma's dog and they get along well. We are so thankful to Smalldog Rescue for bringing us together with Millie. She is our little baby and we are so thankful to have her in our family!

Chassis (Watusi) Update

Today is Chassis's third birthday! (Or really, two years since the day I adopted her, when she was about a year old.) Thought you might enjoy some pics from our little celebration. She is the best dog in the world and I just love her to death. Thanks,

Ronald Reagan (Ronnie) Update

We adopted Ronnie about a month ago and have to say "What a Great Dog"!! He is just so happy, always wagging his tail. And boy does he love his rawhide bones and toys. He will run from room to room flipping his bone or toys around. We have 2 adult cats in the house as well, and Ronnie did a good job learning to get along with them, (more so the cats learning to get along with him). He just wants to play with them. Ronnie also gets along very well with the other dogs in our neighborhood. He loves when we take our neighbor's dog, Pumpkin along for walks with him. At night we all sleep together in bed, cats and dog, what a site! Ronnie loves to wake up earlier than us and tug on the covers and let us know to get up. He truly is a wonderful dog and we are happy that he is our new family member. Thank you Small Dog Rescue!!

Buddy (formerly Carlo) Update

I adopted Buddy (aka Carlo) and he is the joy of my life. He had some "human trust" issues but we have come so far and we are both blessed by finding each other. Buddy now plays with his toys, plays in his backyard, chases me instead of my chasing him and both of our lives are enriched because of meeting each others needs. He runs around like a "pampered pooche in his new home and I am so thankful for SmallDog Rescue and all the work you guys do to save these wonderful blessings. Thank you seems so inadequate but everytime I am in Petco, I make a donation in your container and Buddy and I have something special planned for you guys for Christmas. Please continue to care for these little guys and THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Doodles (formerly Dietrich Buxtehude) Update

Last Saturday we finally found the perfect dog thanks to Kay and the others at the Small Dog Rescue. "Doodles" as my son named him is wonderful. He is taking to life with my other dog and our family like a champ. He is the most affectionate and loving dog. I wanted to thank all those of you at this wonderful group for the work you do.

Bailey (formerly Hugh Jackman) Update

Bailey Gordon, formerly know as Hugh Jackman, was adopted by us in April 2009. He was a scrawny 12 pounds, having come from a puppy mill, and was very shy, reserved, timid and somewhat a scared little fellow. He is now a happy, healthy, funny, outgoing, rambunctious little guy weighing in at 22 pounds and is a complete joy to have around. He loves to play with his Kong Wubba and flying disc. He runs so fast he flips head over heels trying to slow back down to catch it! He is smart and is in “school” learning lots of new commands and tricks. We are as lucky to have him, as he is to have found us.

Fergie (formerly Margaret) Update

My name is Kerrie K. I adopted Fergie a little over 5 years ago. She was originally called Margaret but I had to change he name because my mum is also named Margaret. Her new name is Ferguson Toodles Knudsen but we call her "Fergie". She is quite the character and has been a absolute joy to have. Fergie also has a big problem with her heart, which in turn is causing problems with her liver. We have taken her to the UGA Vet school and also North Carolina State, where several cardiologists spent a week looking at her. They had to consult with a pediatric surgeon at Duke University in order to diagnose her. The diagnosis was a vena cava artery that is malformed. It does not connect the liver to the heart as it should. The prognosis is uncertain. We have decided against heart surgery because Fergie is still a very happy (but cheeky) dog and the doctor said it would be foolish to take such a risk when the little porker is still so healthy and happy. She also snores quite loudly but we don't believe that has anything to do with her heart. We know Fergie will always be on medicine to treat her heart and her liver. The problems with Fergie have made us appreciate her even more. We will always be glad that you gave us the opportunity to help Fergie.

Pip (formerly Orlanda Gibbons) Update

I adopted Pip on June 13th. He is the most adorable (everybody says so!) poodle / maltese mix. This is Pip sitting in the shade of a friend's tomato plant. It's hard to believe that it has only been 5 weeks, it feels like much longer. Pip has settled into his new routine very well. He loves to go on walks, plays chase in the yard and is slowly working out what toys are. It took about 4 weeks, but potty training is finally kicking in (yay!). He's 6 years old so it was always going to take a while. He also likes his cuddle time - what more could you ask for? A puppy mill dog does take a lot of patience, love and understanding, but the rewards are immeasurable.

Maggie Update

We adopted a beautiful black and silver min schnauzer from you all last year, Maggie, who is 10. She came from a breeder in KY who had neglected her. Although she had to have a lot of teeth removed, she does very well eating her food, cookies and treats. She loves it here with her schnauzer brothers and sisters: Otto 14, Zack 8 and Hillary 8. They all get along great and are very comical to see piled up sleeping together on the couch or chaise lounge( see attached photo-- top from bottom: Otto, Hillary, Maggie and Zack)) in our bedroom or playing outside in the back yard. Monday was her birthday and they all got hamburger meat with their dog food and Maggie got a red wiener doggie squeak toy that she loves. We are so glad she joined our family.

Molly (formerly Ibisis) Update

I got Ibisis, now Molly, in January. She is such a joy! She sleeps with us every night, but the minute we wake up in the morning, she leaps out of bed and scratches on my mother-in-law’s bedroom door. My mother-in-law is blind and disabled and stays in bed much of the day. Molly has made her so happy, and has really upgraded the quality of her life. We’ll be at the picnic, so you can see for yourself how cute she is.

Amos (fomerly WinterWonder) Update

We adopted Amos (formerly Winter Wonder) in June 2005 and Maybe (formery Jace) in February 2009, both from Small Dog Rescue. Amos, a Boston/Chihuahua mix, lives to play fetch and tug, and Maybe, a Boston/Frenchie mix, would be happy spending all day chewing sticks or riding in the car. Amos and Maybe have become best buds. They love to play together but they also love to take trips to visit their other dog friends. Not a day goes by when they don't make us laugh. Here's a picture of the two of them on vacation at my parents' house in Florida. (Notice Maybe is keeping tabs on Amos by holding onto his tail!) Thanks, Small Dog Rescue, for helping complete our family!

GeorgeClooney (formerly Obsidian) Update

Just wanted to give an update on my boy-George Clooney (formerly Obsidian). We have been together now for almost 4 years and I can't believe I ever made it without him! I can't imagine loving anything more than I love my George. He is truly my best friend and constant companion. He coaxes me out of bed every morning with sweet little nudges begging to go for our morning walk. And if I have a bad day, no one can make it all melt away like seeing my George! Thank you just does not seem like enough to say for bringing George to me. He has made my life so much more fun and I love and cherish him more everyday.

Riley Update

The picture shows Riley celebrating his 4 year anniversary with his brother and 3 sisters as well as his Nashville cousin(a rescue) and Lawrenceville, GA cousins. Riley is the one in the center with his eyes closed just relaxing in a line of Bichons. My wife and I came to the SmallDog Rescue day because my wife's sister, Carol called us and told us about Riley who really needed a family to rescue him. Riley had been to many rescue days and had not been adopted.

We saw Riley and were told of all the problems Riley currently had. Riley didn't like men, children, could not be housebroken, was food aggressive, suffered seizures, did not like any other dog, just to name a few. My wife and I felt like we were his last chance, and we took him without question. He would be our first rescue. Less than a month later, this is the Riley we had. Riley showed no aggression towards any men. When we took our evening walks, our neighbors three year old granddaughter would come running up to Riley to give him a big hug. Riley's tail would just wag. I could give her Rileys leash and he would walk right beside her, even though we had a number of dogs and people with us. I can put my nose right in front of him and all I get are kisses. Riley has never shown any aggression to any of our bichons and for Riley's anniversary, we had 8 bichons in the house for 6 days.

Riley suffers from late stage heart disease and we have him on two med's for that, a fluid pill and seizure medicine. With all that, Riley is a very happy boy who is loved by his mom and dad and bichons brothers and sisters. My wife and I feel sure that Riley would not still be around if we hadn't come along, so Riley is lucky for that. But we are the lucky ones because of the love he gives back. Riley is on a limited time line now, so we celebrate each day we get out of bed and Riley is still with us.

I'll finish this with one more thing. After Riley, we rescued Lucy, Chloe and Jodi. We now have 5 bichons is our Salisbury NC home and 4 are rescues. Riley's Aunt Carol who is a volunteer with SmallDog thinks that is a fine trend!

Monteverde (Monte) Update

We wanted to send you a few photos of Monteverde, a.k.a. "Monte," who we adopted on February 28 of this year. We are enjoying him and would like to hear from the people who adopted his siblings, Manuel Antonio, Tamarindo, and Carrieri. Dog breed test say he is part chow, part lab and part siberian husky, but all were in trace amounts. He is very spirited, but starting to calm down and mature. A shout out from him to his mom, Irazu. More photos to follow.

Taffy Update

It's been 5 and a half wonderful years since we adopted our scottie Taffy from SDR, and she's 11 and a half years old and still going strong. We are moving to Virginia this summer, so she will be embarking on yet another adventure. For sure, this transition will be far less dramatic than the one from catatonic puppy mill rescue to beloved queen of our household, but she--and we--will be sorry to leave the great folks at SDR behind. Taffy wanted to thank you for saving her life, and we wanted you to know that because of our experience with her we will ALWAYS rescue in the future. Thank you and bless you.

DeeDee (formerly Zoe) Update

We've just celebrated our 4 year anniversary with Zoe (formerly DeeDee) and had to let you know that she continues to bring us much joy and happiness. She has been "adopted" as a playmate for our neighbor's children; who call upon her for "playdates." Our doorbell rings and they ask if Zoe can come out to play! And, even though she is small, she is protective of her family and home. Thank you again for giving us such a wonderful addition to our family.

Rosie and Sadie (formerly Tia Maria & Catalina) Update

Just wanted to let you know that our rescue pups have now been with us 3 years. Who would have thought they’d live this long. Goes to show you what some good loving will do. They come to work with me every day which has really added to their “life style.” Although Rosie still shys away from affection, she will follow me around from time to time. Sadie went blind about 3 months ago, but she is adapting fairly well. Since she was a lap dog from the beginning, she waits patiently for Mommy and Daddy to get her bring her everything she wants. I’ve had a blind dog in the past, so no big surprises here.

Sasha Nicole (formerly Cassandra) Update

Rene and I just wanted to give you an update on Sasha Nicole (formerly Cassandra). Even though we have had her for 6 weeks, She has adapted nicely to/with her younger brother Cody James. She loves sleeping in her dog bed and really loves car rides. She has helped her brother become calm when going for a ride to the park or to grandma's and grandpa's house. She has socialized very well with other dogs. It is nice knowing Cody has a companion to keep him company. A specific "Thank You" to Doris (she is a volunteer) at Small Dog Rescue for telling Rene and I about the rescue of the 3 King Charles dogs. Again thank you Small Dog for all the work that you do.

Jamie (James Patterson) Update

I wanted to let you know Jamie (known as James Patterson) is doing so well. We love him so much and he has really taken to our family. Gracie our Bulldog is enjoying having a friend around, I think she was lonely. Jamie acts like he has been with our family for years, he behaves so well and we never have to worry about leaving him alone with Grace. When we walk through the door he gets so excited, it is hard to believe we have only had him a little under two weeks. Glenn and I are so happy that we were able to rescue a dog who needed a loving home. I have enclosed some pics, we will keep you updated.

Dundee (formerly Kiana) Update

Dundee (formerly Kiana) has been a joy to have as my dog. She is so smart and loving and even tolerates the kitties sitting on her sofa. I am very grateful to Small Dog Rescue and New Leash on Life for this wonderful addition to my home. She loves her big backyard and watches me dig around the garden. A large bank of shrubs has become Dundee's Lair where she hides from the hot sun. Both my vet and her groomer have commented on her perfect manners and gentle nature. Thank you so much for rescuing such a loving dog and keeping her safe until we found each other.

Mollie (formerly CathyLane) Update

Mollie (formerly Cathy Lane Dec 2007) Osa (April 2009) I loved adopting Mollie from SDR and the people so much, I knew I had to become involved....so I became a volunteer for SDR @ 6 months ago, much to the dismay of my husband. So, you can imagine his response when I said I was going to be a "foster Mom". Long story short, we fostered one amazing little girl who is in her forever home, and when we got Osa, my husband WOULD NOT let her go. Even though it was a struggle with the city, she is a wonderful addition in our new family. The photos are Mollie and Osa crammed in the same bed to snuggle, even though they have their own beds!! Thank You SDR for letting me be a part of the special work you do, and helping the dogs find their forever homes!

Lacey Grace (formerly Pattee Bob) Update

Hello! We were lucky enough to adopt Lacey Grace (a Westie Puppy) from SDR 3 years ago. She has been an amazing addition to our little family. Her big sister Maggie – a mini schnauzer – wasn’t really social and the vet suggested that she needed a companion. What a difference this baby has made in our lives! She follows her big sister everywhere and we love playing outside with them every chance we get! Lacey is an earth girl who watches birds, butterflies and squirrels. Here are some photos of her sunbathing.

Milhouse(now Scooter) Update

On April 17th, I will have had the delightful company of Milhouse (now Scooter) for one year. I doubt if either one of us could be any happier. During the past 12 months, the best compliments I ever I received were from my vet: (1) “You can tell this dog is loved” and my sister, (2) “When I die, I want to come back as your dog”. I love Scooter more than you could possibly imagine. He sleeps right beside me every night, has his own blanket, sweater, coat, and rides with me on all of my stops. We continue go to the pond so he can bark at the ducks and be scared by the turtles. THANKS Small Dog Rescue for everything!

Diego (formerly El Nino) Update

We adopted Diego (right) a year ago last December from Small Dog Rescue. He’s been a perfect companion for Frida. They travel with us to our cabin regularly in the north GA mountains where we hike trails when the weather is nice…that’s why we never seem to make SDR events. They love to be where we are & don’t mind long car trips. Hello to Turra (sp?) his foster mom! He still loves his treats!

Benson Update

I adopted Bensen October ’07. Bensen loves other dogs so much that he has made friends with my grandkid’s mechanical Furr Dogs! They bark, wag they tails, and play with Bensen. Here they are all guarding the front door together. Bensen loved the snow we had this year. It was hard keeping him indoors! We are now taking agility classes. He is terrific, learns fast, and loves it! Maybe a future champion? Only if Mom learns to get it right! Who knows, we are just having fun playing together on all the equipment. Bensen loves to play and play and play and has many real doggy friends in the neighborhood. Koko sure looks like Bensen, same fur, same body shape, and size, same face, but Bensen has more coloring. Bensen will be two in June. Koko (formally Boo) is a year older? I guess they could have the same parents different years! Thanks again for all your hard work in caring for and finding homes for these great dogs!

Lillie (formerly Danielle Stelle) Update

Just wanted to give you an update (and a picture). I LOVE my Lillie (Formerly Danielle Stelle) and, I know the feeling is mutual. She is the sweetest little dog! She had a really bad ear infection when I got her - brought her to the vet the Tuesday after I adopted her and had to medicate and clean her ears for a couple of weeks. We had a followup visit last week and her ears are all better. She sleeps with me and gets so excited when it is time to get in the bed!! As soon as I put her in the bed, she starts playing. Then, she just quits and gets on the pillow, ready for bed. Thanks to Small Dog for letting me adopt her; we are a match made in Heaven! P.S. She didn't like the bow in her hair too much so, after the photo shoot, I took it out.

Cali (formerly Calzone) Update

We’ve been meaning to write sooner, but kept waiting for the perfect photo. We’ve adopted Cali (formerly Calzone) in August 2008 and luckily, soon after, she adopted us. She quickly established her spot on the couch and still can be found dozing there-all curled up.

So cute! She loves to ‘kill’ her toys, quickly finding the squeaker, removing it, and rendering it useless. She has some funny games she likes to play. Her favorite is ‘Find the Ball’. After chasing her tiny tennis balls around she’ll find a place to hide them-the dresser, shoe rack or anywhere it will role under. Then she’ll gently roll the ball under with her nose and wait. Then she’ll pounce on the ball either catching it or shooting it to the back. And then of course she sits and looks at us like, “Can you please get my ball?” Her favorite past time is going to the tennis court and chasing balls. She is quite jealous if when we get there and someone is actually playing tennis (see photo). She has brought us such love. We didn’t realize how empty our lives were before she came home with us. We can’t imagine our lives without her. Thank you SmallDog Rescue for giving Cali a second chance and giving us the opportunity to be a part of it.

Missy (formerly Miss Clarins) Update

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! We adopted Missy aka Miss Clarins, from you October 2008. Missy has flourished into a funny, energetic clown. She is settling into life on the farm. She has many friends here one of her favorites is our cat. You can find them sleeping together on the couch or chasing each other through the yard. She has traveled with us to 4 different states since she became a member of the family. We love to go trail riding with our horses and Missy & Cowboy love the hiking trails. She even spent New Years in Gatlinburg, Ga TN, watching the ball drop.

Missy was a puppy mill survivor who has turned out to be the love of our lives. We had many obstacles to over come because of her puppy mill past and I want to thank everyone from SmallDog Rescue who took the time to walk us through some of the strange behaviors that we have encountered. Because of your dedication we have a wonderful addition to our family and Missy finally has a FOREVER home.

Polly Pogo Update

We adopted Polly from SmallDog Rescue in 2006. She is a wonderful girl. We kept her name, Polly, although now her full name is Polly Pocket Pogo. She got a rescued brother in the summer of 2007, Kevin Noodles. Like all true siblings, they have a love/not love relationship. They play together constantly, but sometimes Polly has to correct Noodles for his antics. She can be quite the mother hen. They have a great life with a big yard, lots of walks, bully sticks and licks a lots, and doggy daycare once a week. We love them both and can’t imagine our family without them now. Thank you, SmallDog Rescue.

Scooter (formerly Milhouse) Update

I was adopted last April and couldn’t be happier. Thanks to all of you who contributed to my eye surgery. I can now see out of my right eye, but I am still going blind in my left eye and require daily medications. I sleep with my momma every night, get groomed regularly, and occasionally go to “day care”- which I love.! I got a sweater and a coat for Christmas along with lots of chewies. I love my forever home.

Rumba Update

ISN’T SHE CUTE? RUMBA HAS CHARMED MY HEART
Hello everyone. I wanted to share with you that I have been so happy to be a part of Rumba’s life she is my traveling partner and she loves to go for rides in the car. Back in October, 2008 I almost lost her and did not know what was happening. She began to breath heavily, so the vet took X-rays and referred me to GVS. Rumba had to have her larynx flushed. She had something logged and come to find out it was from the Nylabone. So she is not allowed to have them anymore. She has other toys that she likes to play with and doesn’t even miss those bones. I am so glad to have my little sweet angel back playing and gaining the weight that she had lost. She is such a precious jewel. When we go to the park she rolls over and wants everyone to pet her tummy. What a little charmer she is, who likes to sleep with me at night then lets me know it’s time to get up in the mornings by putting her cold nose to my face.
This past Christmas my 20 month grandson was here and he and Rumba played, ran and licked. My grandson has given Rumba a new name “Ba”. He goes through the house calling Ba.
Thank you for the joy that I am experiencing with her. By the way she does respond to the “Clicker”. Those little legs can go fast if given the chance.

Noodles (formerly Blue Mystique) Update

Hi, I wanted to pass along some photos of Noodles. She is incredibly funny and so very sweet. Here are some photos of Noodles at Christmas and as "Minnie" (ears compliments of her "MeMa").
She ALWAYS makes me laugh and truly makes my little world a ton brighter every single day.
Thanks to Small Dog Humane for caring for all of the wonderful animals and for allowing us to give them homes!!

Suzanne Sugarbaker Update

We would like update everyone on the beautiful Suzanne. Suzanne is now living near the beach and mountains. She is enjoying her "sister" - they are inseparable. When they are not out hiking in the mountains or running on the beach they are snuggled up on the couch or in their bed. After only a year, Suzanne now cuddles, loves to be held, sleeps up against our backs, sits in our laps, and grew a gorgeous long brown coat. As well, her teeth and jaw have been fixed with a small surgery and she has an amazing smile. We are so lucky to have her.

Napa (formerly Luna) Update

Hi, all! Just a quick update on our Doggy Daughter, Napa (formerly Luna). We adopted her in October 2007, and she is a wonderful member of our family! She's a sweet beagle-mix, very loving and very obedient.
She was naturally very shy and a little skittish at first. But oh boy, has her doggy personality come out! She has no problem woofing at us for attention, to go out, or to come in.
She has a wonderful time playing in the back yard, chasing her toys, munching doggy "cookies", and then napping on her (and sometimes our) bed. It's not uncommon for her to curl up with us wherever we are. She's the sweetest!

Lulu Update

We wanted to send you an update on Lulu---one of the peke rescues from the puppy mill bust in WV. We adopted her on November 1 and she is just the sweetest thing. It is so wonderful watching her learn how to be a real dog with people who love her. She goes to work with me every day and loves the other dogs and people there. We have to be careful because she gets so excited playing with the other dogs that she has little piddle accidents! She loves, loves, loves to go for walks and would really love to be allowed to chase a squirrel or a bird. She walks a minimum of a mile a day and just over the past week she's finally figured out how much fun it is to play with her toys and her people. And again with the piddle....we're hoping that eventually she'll get used to having so much fun and not get quite so excited. But even with the piddle, she's super cute and fun to watch.
She has loved the holidays with our family and work family gatherings and has won the heart of everyone she's met. You can see in these pictures how she's just eating it all up. Thanks to you all for all you do with these wonderful, deserving dogs.

Matilda (formerly Miss Good Humor) Update

I wanted to send you an update on one of your former little ones. You knew her as "Missy Good Humor" but she now goes by "Matilda." It's been over two years since Matilda came to live with me and she is happily ensconced as Queen of the House!
We're living in Greenville, SC now, and she's made lots of new friends at the PetsMart PetsHotel and Grooming Salon where she's always the belle of the ball. She also enjoys spending the day with her friend Summer (the white dog in the attached pic) and her "cousin" Rufus (who's tail end is visible in the same pic!).
In short, I can't imagine what life would be like without Matilda. I'm truly the lucky one to have my little princess, so thank you, thank you, thank you Small Dog Rescue for bringing her to me!

Bucky O'Neil Update

It's been a little over a year since Bucky became a dear and precious member of our family, and we wanted to let everyone at SmallDog Rescue know that he is without a doubt the most wonderful thing that has happened to our family in the last year. His naturally calm nature coupled with his keen intelligence leave us feeling like we won the rescue dog lottery! And what a love bug...so affectionate and sweet--always eager to accept hugs, kisses and belly rubs from everyone he meets. We also enjoyed seeing Bucky's SDR friends during our visits to adoption Saturdays at Petco and at the annual birthday party this past summer. All the best,

Q'Bee (formerly Tippy) Update
I adopted my sweet girl from Bren Kyle on July 3rd....and isn't it funny that I can remember the day but not the year, but it has been about 10 years ago. She was around 2 when I adopted her, so as you can see, she is getting up in years. She is a cross between a Yorkie and a Chihuahua. (I call her a Yorkiwawa.) She is the love of my life!
Her name was Tippy when I adopted her, but I call her Q'Bee...short for Queen Bee, which she definitely is. Her best friend is my Bichon, also a rescue (from a puppy mill in Florida). This is my favorite picture, where she is using my Bichon as her pillow. (See how well the "Queen Bee" title fits her?)

Here is her favorite position - the "shouldn't you be rubbing my belly?" position.

And here is a close-up of her beautiful face.

We are most certainly a "happy ending"! Blessings on you and your work.

Roxy (formerly Polka) Update

It has been a year since we adopted Roxy (Polka) and we just wanted to drop you a quick note to tell you that Roxy is doing great and we couldn't have wished for a sweeter dog. Her only issue was going up and down long flights of stairs, but she got over that in a few days and quickly adjusted to our lifestyle (as well as our 10yr old Westie, Dex).
Roxy and Dex are best buddies and keep each other company during the day. She loves going to the dog park so she can chase and wrangle all the other dogs (her Corgi genes). We still can't get over how incredibly loving and smart she is and that she has never shown any signs of aggression. We can tell she is so appreciative to finally have a loving home. Everyone at Small Dog rescue, from the foster parents to the volunteers, did a wonderful job getting Roxy ready to live in our home. Keep it up!
Thanks!!

Rhett Butler (Formerly Nat King Cole) Update

Rhett Butler (formerly Nat King Cole) joined our family on May 3rd of this year. He was welcomed by his two Shih Tzu brothers, Nicholas and Chopin as well as his cat cousins, Nero and Bandit. Bandit was a rescue kitten from a parking lot and he was the first for Rhett to bond with. Seems they knew they shared something special.
Rhett’s nickname is “Happy Dog” because he is truly one happy dog! After a couple of weeks for our oldest to work out the alpha dog issues everyone has become one big happy family. Rhett, as with the others, has the run of the house and was perfectly house trained from the beginning. When he joined the others in a good healthy diet and exercise he has slimmed down by a couple of pounds and our Vet says he is in great health. After several trips to the groomer (beauty shop is the name they recognize) his coat has turned out to be beautiful and he loves his bathes!
Rhett is very much a “lap dog”. He loves to be sitting in your lap whether it’s to watch television, read or anything else where you are still enough to give him a chance to get settled. He enjoys being outside and his favorite past time is lie on the patio and watch the birds at the feeders and bath. And when the doves come in to clean up what has fallen to the ground – he just has to get up and run over to greet them. He really looks forward to his evening walks with his brothers.
Most of all Rhett is appreciative. We truly believe that he knows he has found a home for life. When he’s sitting in your lap looking up at you with those big brown eyes it is easy to see that he loves us as much as we love him. We make sure to give all three their own private special times with each of us so know one feels left out.
I encourage anyone who is looking for a family addition to consider an adoption. It has been a truly remarkable event for us. Small Dog Rescue is a great organization to work with. We thank each and everyone involved in the organization for a great experience.

Ethel (Formerly Buffy Summers) Update
Hi there! It’s Buffy Summers. I’m now living in Midtown under an assumed name (Ethel). I had to go "incognito" after meeting so many fun dogs and cool people at Small Dog Rescue. Be assured, each of dog pals and newly acquired human friends continues to hold a dear space in my heart. But, I have to tell you the pup paparazzi can be relentless. I just needed to take a few months away from my adoring fans to settle into my new forever home.
It’s really fun here! I have my own bed (although I sneak into my Mom’s bed whenever I can – most every night and when she goes to the grocery to buy me more treats). Life is good. We have a swimming pool and lots of room to run but I must admit that my water wings are accumulating dust. Even my thick fur can’t protect me from the chill of the water. I am a delicate flower after all!
For all my pals who are still making their home with Small Dog Rescue, there is a really special human is coming for you soon. The humans at SDR are the best and they’ll be sure that you get a Mom, Dad and family as fun as mine are.

McLarney "Family" Update

Milo (formerly Rubin; Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix): Our first SDR adoption. Shy and unsure how to interact with people at first, he’s now a therapy dog with Happy Tails Pet Therapy.
Piper (formerly Beth; Corgi/JRT mix): Our first “failed foster”. Still a little skittish, but we’re amazed at how much she’s improved. She’s the sweetest, most obedient dog we’ve ever known.
LuLu (formerly Bren 07; Chihuahua/JRT mix) Came home with us during last year’s alumni picnic, and quickly became our second “failed foster” (who were we trying to kid?) She has tireless energy (what else would you expect from a Chi/JRT mix?) but we love her silly ways. We call her a “circus dog” because she is always begging, on her hind legs, or jumping straight up 4 feet in the air.

Annie Elise Update

When I saw Annie’s picture on your website – she was looking back at me with those beautiful intense eyes. Then when I finally met her – that was it! She had me! She’s brought such joy to our home and fit right in since the very first day. Annie loves:
Keeping ALL the chew and squeaky toys piled up together where she sleeps (namely in my bed) and will lie right next to them so no one else can have them!
Running as fast as she can through the backyard chasing and wrestling with my other dog Kiki.
Going to the dog park.
Going for long walks on the weekends in the National Forests.
Car rides.
Barking through the window at strangers.
Going to the ocean on weekends trying to catch those darn seagulls.
Late-night treats - making sure she’s first in line.
Giving kisses.
Lying next to me when I’m sleeping making sure that I’m safe

Sammy (Formerly Sparrow) Update

Sammy (formerly Sparrow) is doing just GREAT! He's happy, healthy and for better or worse, very spoiled! We can't imagine what life was like before him! Attached is a photo of Sammy and our two cats. (Editor's note - sorry, I had to crop the kitties out to fit the picture). Sammy would love nothing more than for the cats to play "tug of war" with him and his toys, but they're still trying to figure out what this creature with the never-ending wagging tail is! The neighborhood kids and dogs ring the door asking if Sammy can out to play often, so between our kids and the neighborhood families, he's a very happy doggy! Thanks a million for bringing him into our lives!

Beau (Formerly Fandango) Update

Hello there: So happy to report that Fandango (now Beau) is doing great. At first he was a real escape artist and the first week did get out the door and down the street into the next subdivision with myself, a friend, our daughter and grandson after him. I was so scared. We have a completely fenced yard and ONLY take him out through the deck to the back yard or walk him with the harness. Even had to put up 4 ft chicken wire around wrough iron fence (looks fine) as he could slip his head and shoulders through fence. Also our other rescue GiGI obtained from Recycled Pets at the same time could get through. Now they love to romp in the backyard together.
He is off being groomed this morning. My husband also is crazy about him, has become a big part of our life. Beau and GiGi love each other and have fun playing tug of war with the stuffed toys. During the day, he lays by my side or under a nearby desk while I do my computer work. All our windows go to the floor (designed that way so our previous Buddy could look out). Our family is again complete and we are so happy that Fandango (Beau) is such a joy to our life! I will send his picture separately taken by our neighbor girl. Hope it is not too large, don't know too much about pictures on computers. Keep up the wonderful work you are doing.

Charlie Congo Update

Hello! It has been awhile since I've updated. I updated my other doggie's rescue group last night, as it is her 1 year anniversary with me! :) So time for Sir Charlie too!
Charlie (Congo) is absolutely wonderful still. I love him to pieces! :) He is such an amazing dog! It is coming up on three years that he has been with me. I got my other dog Chloe a year ago, and they are good buddies. I like that when I have to go out, they have each other! I am sorry I have not been able to help out more with the group. Work is CRAZY! LUCKILY for me and the puppers, I get to work at home a LOT so they are always here with me.
Thanks for my baby!

Raleigh Update

As you will see in the attached, Raleigh is doing what he does best--taking it easy. I swear I did nothing to set the stage for this photo--all those toys (6 of them) were assembled by the little guy himself. He does this all the time and ends up sleeping on top of them--and this is a little bed. Then as we move to another room, he runs in and grabs more toys for even more beds (even mine). I have tons of dog beds around the house so this has become a full-time job for him.
Raleigh is just as special today as he was last December, when I met him. He's a really good doggie. I look at him and inevitably he's looking at me, just waiting for his next assignment. The three dogs are a good little pack who are remarkable well-behaved and Ral has an established role on the team--he's the "Growler"--and no one cares. I've decided to call it singing.

Raleigh is a happy camper

Mel Torme Update

You probably hear this a lot but when I say I got the perfect dog for myself, I really believe that. He is gentle, smart, loving, and a real beauty. His incredible eyes are exceptional and what drew me instantly the minute I saw him in his cage at Petco. He "talks" with those eyes and most of the time he is just conveying pure love with them. He is constantly at my side and is always contacting physically by such things as laying on my foot, sitting on my lap, or snuggling against my side. I have been taking him to the "Play Park" at Pinckneyville almost nightly but the other people laugh because most of the time he just wants to stick close. I keep trying though as I think he needs to "socialize". He is extending himself more and more and when he does find a playmate for awhile he seems to have great fun. I have also invited a couple of playmates into my newly fenced in yard and he seems to enjoy that maybe even more. One night, I had an over-night guest, a little Papillon, and one of them had to go out at 1 o'clock in the morning. When we got in, the two of them started romping in the bed amidst the sheets and pillows. I had to move out and to my recliner as they were having so much fun, I didn't want to stop their rollicking. They kept it up for about an hour and a half and then resumed their antics in the morning. Needless to say, I had to strip the bed after that but it was worth it.
I kept the name, "Mel Torme", as Mel Torme was rather a gentle crooner as Mel, the dog, is. I have had fun with that name, giving Mel many nick-names along the way. When he chewed 2 of my throw pillows his first night, he was "Mel, the Muncher". (That problem was quickly solved by getting him toys to tear apart and bones to gnaw ). Another moniker is Melachi , a take-off for Malachi, the Bibical prophet, on Sundays. By the way, I am Christian and tell all my friends that I have a Christian dog, as well, as he shows the fruits of the Spirit as listed in Galations-----"love, joy, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control". He also sometimes has the name Melloki which is a combination of Mel and Loki, the Norse God of mischief and the name of my very first dog. "Mr. Mel" or "Mel, the Man" also crop up here and there.

Mel has no problem with his house manners now even though there was a time in his first week when there were a couple of accidents. He tells me when he wants to go out by walking on the back of my legs or if my face is accessible, insistent kisses. He also gets a long walk first thing in the morning, a short one mid-day, and another outing either in the doggy park or in the neighborhood at night. It not only helps with his house manners but gives me exercise so its a win-win.
Mel is still favoring his leg that was broken but is using it more and more. At first, he would only use it during a slow walk and hold it up when he put on speed. Now, I believe, a lot of this is by habit and maybe this leg had been that way a long time before he was found. He uses it more and more when he is running with the other dogs and, I think, "forgets" to hold it up. He consistently uses it to scratch the dirt and doesn't favor it at all then. I have hopes that it just is going to get better and better but if it never gets 100% its ok as long as its ok with him. The first day I saw Mel at Petco, I had my arm in a sling so maybe it helped me to relate to his misfortune with his leg.
Thank you so much for my beautiful little dog and all the precious moments I have already had in these 2 months and am looking forward to the years ahead that we are going to be spending together.

Oscar (formerly Penguin) Update

We actually renamed Penguin to Oscar! We thought it would be more fitting. He is doing wonderful. He is in love with Joe's 8 year old daughter Kayla! They are inseparable! He's definitely a spoiled baby! We try to make him remember that he's a dog, but he won't have any part of it. He's as healthy as can be and has been introduced to a vet who confirmed he's a healthy boy. Thank you for checkin' in on us. We'll try to keep you updated more regularly! Thank you,

Lille (formerly Lorna Doone) Update

Lorna Doone is doing VERY well. Her name is now Lillie. She is loving and sweet -- and rarely snaps at any of us! She is learning to trust our family, but has particularly bonded with my 8-year-old. (She will ONLY sleep with my daughter!) She loves to take walks, but her most favorite thing to do is eat. She will do just about anything for a treat. My other dog, Rouzer, enjoys playing with her. They wrestle regularly. He's twice her size, but she is always in control.
Our two cats tolerate Lillie. She wants to chase them, but they won't comply. They do take cover when she comes at them, but they won't hide. Sometimes they gang up on her and give her a little swat on the behind. I expect distant future harmony. It'll be slow, but we're seeing progress.
Lillie is a cuddler, so we all get lots of bonding time. We are thrilled to have found her. She is the perfect dog for our family. We love our little girl! Please check in any time.

Toby (formerly Dean Martin)Update

Dean Martin now goes by the name “Toby”. He has settled in well and is happy in his new home. He is soo smart and is doing very well in obedience training. I am also thinking about getting him started in agility training as well as training to be a therapy dog for kids. My other dog, a 12 year old Bichon; Maggie; took to him right away. They play well together and they play often. I couldn’t be happier with him. I feel blessed to have found him. He is a beloved member of my little pack.
Thank you for the work that you do at SmallDog Rescue. And thank you for Toby!

Annie (formerly Veronica Mars) Update

Annie came into our lives about 2 months after the passing of our beloved 16 1/2 year old Yorkie, Murfi. Although we knew we would soon have another four legged member of the family, we were not expecting it to happen as soon as it did. We were simply testing the “adoption waters” and waiting for our hearts to slowly heal. When we arrived at the adoption on Feb 16, we spotted her from across the parking lot. She curled up in my arms and it was love at first sight. She was recovering from surgery only 2 days before. It turns out that Carrie, one of our many heroes from Small Dog Rescue, had chosen her at the last minute to go to the adoption.
When we brought her home a week later, she settled in immediately and enjoyed the ‘puppyhood’ she had never had, playing with her toys, munching on treats and getting – and giving- lots of cuddling, hugs and kisses. We would seldom venture very far from the yard, since as result of her time alone on the streets, she would lunge barking and growling at SUV’s, most men and all trucks. Since that time we have watched her blossom into a loving, energetic, happily adjusted angel. She has gone to puppy school; enjoys long walks with mom every morning and has made lots of new friends, both people and pets! Her Sunday morning boat rides on our boat - the Annie B (named after her of course) are the highlight of her week. She spends week days in the office with mom and loves the role of office manager. And when mom is out of the office, Aunt Linda comes to visit, walk and play!
Annie’s resilient spirit, her energy, her joy and her unconditional love and trust has made our hearts whole again. She has filled every day with love and laughter; and has been the answer to all of our doggie prayers! Many thanks to Carrie, Vickie - Annie’s foster mom - and all of you at Small Dog Rescue. God Bless you all!

Silas (Formerly Beignet) Update

This is Silas!!! I adopted him around April of 2006. I can’t express how much I adore this dog. He is a complete nut! Silas was around 1 year old and 14 pounds when SDR claimed him from a shelter in Jan 06 and 24 pounds when I adopted him. He is now a healthy & steady 33 pounds.

He was always a friendly and happy dog but did not like people in his face and would get a little snappy (like when I would lean down to kiss him goodnight) but after settling in and working with him for a few months he got over that phase & I can give him kisses any time I like. This dog is an absolute clown, he howls when I go to my car and when I come home and is constantly mouthing growly talky sounds at me. I also have another dog Violet who is 15 years old and Silas is a fantastic companion to her & likes to whip up a little excitement with her at the drop of a hat in the gentlest way. He is definitely keeping her young! I knew he was the one for me the day I saw him and Violet agreed.

Kiefer (formerly Kestrel) Update

I adopted Kiefer back in the early spring. I just wanted to give you a quick update on the little guy and I am including some pictures. He is quite possibly the love of my life :-) He is a total cuddler and at times we call him the 'slug' because when we want him to get up and go outside or disturb him from one of his naps he gives us the look like "are you kidding me, I'm really comfortable here!" He adjusted to apartment living really fast and even enjoyed getting up with me at the wee hours of the morning to study for exams. He got to experience the 'blizzard' Ohio had in March when we went home for Spring Break. One of the pictures shows him and the other kids playing in the snow. He had just got a haircut so he is wearing his nice winter coat to stay warm.
He is vacationing with his brothers and girlfriend Ruby in Ohio this summer (See the picture of the two of them in their matching outfits), as I am basing out of Ohio for work until school starts. Being around the other dogs has really boosted his confidence and he runs and plays like any other 2.5 year old. In fact, when there isn't enough of a ruckus going on for his taste he gets the other dogs going. It took a little while for him and Dozer to warm up to each other but now they are old friends, and if they every disagree Tugger jumps in and keeps the peace.

Everyone that meets him falls in love with him. He is the favorite among the neighborhood kids both in Atlanta and Ohio, and my mom and sister have both threatened to kidnap him from me. I keep telling them NO WAY!!!
Just wanted to say thanks again for everything you, Jessica, and Small Dogs did for Kiefer and me. You are all truly Angels for these animals. Take care!

Nicky Nova Update

Hi - I just wanted to give an update on Nicky Nova, who joined our family in August 2007. She's doing great - has won over the whole family with her antics and sweet disposition. She's gained weight & her coat grew out beautifully - everyone says she's the softest dog they've ever touched.
Here's a photo - just before her 'summer trim' - as she lurks in the yard hoping for a squirrel to come her way. Forget chipmunks, birds, and other creatures, it's all about the squirrels.

Brunsli Update
Brunsli settled in so quickly that it seems he has always been a part of our family. He is sweet and loving and enjoys being close to our other dog.
When in the house, Brunsli sleeps much of the time but when he goes out he is active and explores every corner of the yard. He has selective hearing but always hears the words--"snack", "food", or "outside". And, he never barks except when I am preparing his food. It seems that he thinks I am too slow getting the food to him, and he lets me know that I should work faster. He is so funny.
Since our children are adults, our pets are our babies and we enjoy and love having them with us. Brunsli is so sweet and we are very happy that he is part of our family.
Thanks for giving Brunsli to us.

Gidgette (formerly Carrie Canary) Update

Carrie canary (now Gidgette) is doing GREAT!!! she has put our male shih tzu Gizmo (age 3) in his place - she rules, ha! most everybody thinks they are twins - he a little bigger and manly faced and bodied - she is smaller and more girly faced and in the way she walks - looks like shes walking in high heels --- sleeps with us like gizmo does--- she has fit in perfectly!
she loves riding on the pontoon boat with the wind in her hair but does not care for the water -- she got a fido float -pink and white polka dots - one of her many gifts she rec'd at the "pretty in pink" puppy shower that my neighbors/friends gave for her back in march at the Windward Dog Park -- she had a blast and so did gizmo and all the other dogs that came!!! Our 12 yr old cat, Snowey, even gets along with Gidgette!

Pete (formerly Fonzie) Update
Fonzie is doing great - he's just a joy. We renamed him Pete and he has taken the name really well. Our house is so much calmer now with Pete in it. He gets along really great with Jake and Sadie and loves the backyard. I think he is enjoying being part of a family again.
Our main issue has been with his marking (which we expected). We've made progress on that issue but I don't think it's completely resolved - we just don't set bags on the floor now - it removes the temptation. We just cleaned the carpet again, so I guess we'll see if the marking starts up again or if there's still just enough scent for him to leave it alone.
He absolutely loves his footballs. He likes the other toys, but footballs apparently are the best. It's sooo cute to watch him try to figure out how to pick up the second football when he has the first football in his mouth. He has to take one to bed with him at night. He is a nut for toys! Since he kills the squeaker, we're on the third set of footballs. Good thing Petsmart has a supply of them!
He is also just the biggest lover I've ever had in a dog (even more than Sadie the pug). He will get up on your lap, put one paw on each shoulder and nuzzle his nose under your chin, then fall asleep while you pet him. It is the sweetest thing ever. A regular evening ritual has me on the couch with Pete lying on my knees, Jake at my feet, and Sadie on my lap. We can't imagine life without Pete. He has really completed our family.
Thanks so much for helping us find each other.

Tisza Update
Tizzy is well settled, she loves our big fenced in backyard, and is getting very good and standing on her hind legs to greet you and ask for food. She is a lot of fun. The only thing that we could ask for would be more food coupons for science diet, since that is what keeps her happy. Thanks,

Charlie Pace Update

I would say things are going great. He had a bit of a rough time shortly after coming to live with us. I had an older boy, Seymour, whom I had to put down in mid March. While Charlie and Seymour did not socialize a great deal, due to Seymour's age mostly, they were companions. Once we lost Seymour, Charlie begame quite agitated and easily spooked, and we had him on Prozac for a short time to help calm his nerves. I adopted another litte girl, Sally, about three weeks ago and he is really beginning to settle nicely with her. He's a charmer, no doubt. Loves to go for rides and walks. Really he loves anything that involves people! He's very social, and I am so thankful for that. I have included one of my favorite pictures - Charlie is cogitating jumping onto the sofa...which is not allowed. He sleeps on my bed with me, but the dogs are not allowed on the furniture in the common area.
He really is a pleasure to love.

Chianti Update

We are both doing great. At first he was a little hesitant, but everyday he got better and better. He's a completely different dog from when I first got him. Chianti is so energetic and always happy. I love coming home to him, he's always so excited to see me! He's extremely spoiled, he has a whole wardrobe! He goes pretty much everywhere with me. He is the perfect dog, I love him to pieces.

Chick (formerly Robbie Douglas) Update

My husband David and I were fortunate enough to find Chick to bring into our home in December 2007. We knew when we found one another that he was special and as you might tell from the photo he is very special to a great many people. He is at my office everyday and enjoys the company of all his co-workers.
I had only heard that chihuahuas were nervous, tempermental and noisy dogs. Chick is none of these things but is so much more. In January 2008 we began attending Dog School 101 in Marietta. Many thanks to Sandy and Xalina for their support in Chicks training and their encouragement in scratching only the surface of Chicks potential. Many thanks to my husband David for his allowing a "tiny dog" into our home. Also, I try to thank our 15 year old cat, Mabes, every day for her allowing a "tiny dog" into our home though she does not always appreciate my thanks or his presence.
When Chick visits his eighty-eight year old Grandmother Geraldine in Florida his feet rarely touch the ground as she prefers to carry him everywhere we go (even her work) yes she still works three days a week!
Chick and I are working towards certification through the Delta Society and hope to be certified sometime in September when Chick turns one year old.
Thank you to all that were involved in Chicks formative months before he found his way to our home. We hope Chicks siblings and parents have found happiness in their new homes.

Kiffling (formerly Louis Lamore) Update

HI everyone, I wanted to update you on the progress of Louis. He has turned out to be the best little guy. He goes to work with us every day and the customers love him.. He is quite a ladies man as well. We have found that he does have issues with Men in hats and tall men as well. He is afraid of thunderstorms and lightening. Over all he loves his new home, he has 1 acre of wooded land to dig as many chipmunk holes as he wants.. We believe he was a hunter based on the squirell he caught! He loves to be loved and loves the bed!!

Meggie (formerly Calamity Jane) Update
I have been meaning to write to you for a year, to tell you all about Meggie (f.k.a. Calamity Jane), the Westie you helped me to adopt in April 2007. She is a very happy dog, and I am so glad I adopted her. She sleeps on the bed with me. She is a little jealous of the cats and growls if they get closer to me than she is. Or she compromises by putting her head ON my head, so she's the closest! Her favorite outside activity (in the fenced backyard) is treeing squirrels. I never tire of watching her jump up and down on her 2 hind feet, looking up at the squirrel, barking, "I nearly got you! Watch out next time!"
She also likes to go see Grandpa and Grandma (my parents) and is well behaved on her pink leash and harness. She is a beautiful, healthy, happy dog. Thank you so much for your excellent dog program,
- Lee (Meggie's mom)

Milo Meltaway Update

Milo is doing great--it took him no time to make himself at home. I kept his name and actually-small world-I know his previous owner and was able to get a lot of good information on Milo. I have attached a picture of Milo and me. I don't dress him often, but he does wear PJs. He is much more calm and relaxed and snuggly when he is in clothes. It's part of our nighttime routine.
Take care and thanks for checking in.

Jack (formerly Michael Douglas) Update

I was just thinking this week that I should send you a note and let you know how successful our adoption was. Michael Douglas did have a name change, it just wasn’t working for us. His name is Jackson and he responds to “Jackie”, “Jack Sprat”, “Jackson Brown”, “Jackie Blue” (lol). He is an absolute joy. He and his sister, Andie (our adoptee from the year prior) are wonderful companions. I had concerns about house training Jack as he had a doggie door at his foster home. He was so easy to train. I took him out every hour on the hour and eventually tapered off to every two hours , then three etc. It was a long process but he did well with rewards and within a day knew what it took to get a treat! Jack is a real cuddler and our independent Andie (3 year old rescue) has now become a cuddler as well as she has no intention of being left out !
I’ve attached some pictures of the dogs for you. Jack is the one on the right in both pictures where Andie and Jack are present. Thank you so much for the great work that you all do. I’m delighted to tell you that our experience has inspired friends to adopt.

Mandy (formerly Thelma Thumbprint) Update

Hello all. Here are some photos of our lovely dog. Thelma Thumbprint is now "Mandy" and she is doing great. We love this dog and couldn't be happier with our choice. She settled in so quickly and became a part of our family so fast, that we were all quite surprised. I expected more of a "getting to know you" period, but this is just one of those meant to be good things that happen when you least expect it. You guys do an awesome job!

Ryan (formerly Orion) Update

I adopted Ryan in November 2007 and have enjoyed every moment with him. He has so much energy and love to give, he only ask to crawl up on my lap and be cuddled. I take him to an off leash park several times a week, he loves playing with the other dogs. Ryan loves everyone he meets. He has learned sit, down, stay and come, he also shakes hands. He is such a good boy and loves to please. I am now fostering dogs and Ryan accepts every dog I bring into the house, he just wish I would bring one in that likes to play a little more.

Pipit Update
Just this week Pipit has been allowed to move from sleeping in his crate at night to sleeping with the kids on their beds. He is in great demand and I must say he looks very content on the bed. He is a cuddle puppy. He is happiest when playing with them. We want to take him to dog school because we think he is smart and could learn a lot.
He still has occasional problems of pooping in the house if he is not watched every minute. We are working on that.
We love him and think he is the cutest.

Thurston Howell, III Update

We did a trial adoption of Thurston on January 5,2008, then returned to do a full adoption on Jan. 12, 2008. What a burst of energy. We were concerned of him not getting along with our cat, but they have become buds. they like to chase each other up and down the hallway and around the sofa. It has now been 2 months with no mistakes of going to the bathroom in the house. He is such a good boy and really filled a void, after we lost our dog in September.

Jerry (formerly Ibis) Update

Jerry has become quite a little spark plug & super watch dog. He's great and almost has me completely trained. Henry and Jerry lead me on walks like a couple of sled dogs mushing through the snow. They both sit quickly for treats. "Accidents" are few & usually due to some of my longer days at school. They wrestle like they're going to kill each other & then both curl up together in the single dog bed for naps. Jerry is the official paper shredder around the house. I just leave him newspapers & a box or 2 and he makes a hallway full of confetti by the time I get home.
He hated staying in the kitchen those first 2 weeks He redecorated the kitchen by pulling down the curtains, pulling another pair through the doggie gate, pulled everything off the shelves at his level, and tore through the wall between the kitchen to the bathroom. HE WANTED TO PLAY WITH HENRY!!
He now has full run of the house & snuggles to sleep & insists upon being on me, level to my face during TV watching. I love him dearly as does Henry (though he still won't say so). All is well. Enjoy the family portrait.

Bailey (formerly Spanx) Update
We were having some issues on house breaking Bailey - but finally a light seems to have switched on in her head. She has been free from any accidents in the house for over ten days! She will ring the bell attached to the door knob with her paw to let us know she wants to go out.
She is my little shadow - she follows me every where. She loves to play in the back yard! She loves to play period! We took here to the lake house and she did great there. She really likes the lake. She is really looking forward to lake season. She already wants to get into the lake.
We are going to put the boat in this weekend and see how she likes cruising on the bow. She wants to show of her new doggie life vest to all the other dogs on the lake! All in all - Bailey seems to adapting to our way of life and is accepting us as her family. I am sending some pictures that we have of her.
Thanks again for being such a caring dog rescue group. I tell everyone that asks where we got Bailey - on what a positive experience they would have if they would adopt through SmallDog Rescue.

Macy (formerly Mona Merlot) Update
My husband gave me Mona Merlot (now Macy) as an early bday present in Aug. 06. She had inoperable cataracts, so she cannot see, but don't tell her that! She learned the layout of our house and yard in one day! She has two brothers, Max (a black cocker spaniel whom we adopted from SmallDog Rescue in June 2000) and Mosey, a beautiful blonde cocker spaniel that friends gave to us because they could not take care of him, but we only find him to be wonderful and very entertaining! Macy quickly let the boys know that she was the Princess of the house and that she was in charge. Even though she's blind, she charges at the back door with Max & Mosey in tow to go out in the back yard. She's is truly a blessing, as all of our dogs are to us. This was our first experience in owning a blind dog, but it really is no different and certainly not a handicap for her. She's a true joy to us and just the most precious girl ever!

Zoe Update
Zoe is doing wonderfully. She went for her first extended stay at Grandpa's while I spent a 5 days in New York last week. My dad fell in love with her. Previously, she had been a little unsure of him barking like crazy every time he came in until he gave her a treat. Then after the treat she would still stand off in the distance. But this time he really got to see the great dog she is as they cuddled on the couch together while Tybee (Zoe's sister) played outside. He said he would take care of her any day.
Zoe has trained us well. She would get on counters, so we put up a blind that keeps her off. She would get in the trash, so we now keep the trash in a mud room off the kitchen. Other than those two issues that are now taken care of, she is the perfect doggie. We couldnt be happier.
Talk to you soon and hopefully see you in June!

Merlin (formerly Ravioli) Update

Merlin (Ravioli) is doing really well! He is a wonderful guy and I'm so glad I brought him home. He has his quirks but they just make me love him more. We're working on some issues like barking, cat chasing and being a little aggressive...but he's improved tremendously and every day he becomes a happier, more secure dog. I've enclosed a couple of pics...when he came into the program he had had demodex mange. I've been giving him fish oil and his coat is unbelievable full and shiny now.

Finley (formerly Heron) Update

I couldn't be happier with Finley (previously Heron). I went with a Scottish name to honor his heritage as a terrier. He's been such a joy, so full of love and energy. It took him about 3 days to be fully house-trained. He loves to play fetch, and we are working on simple commands like sit and coming when he's called. He's great with kids in my neighborhood that want to pet him and seems to love people and other dogs. His only problem is he gets really nervous when riding in the car, but we've been working on it. I can't thank SmallDog Rescue enough for being so helpful and understanding through the whole process. Here are some adorable pictures. Enjoy!

Koko (formerly Boo) Update

I adopted Koko 3 years ago from SDR. We moved from Atlanta back to Northern Virginia (right outside of DC). I noticed that Benson was on the happy endings section and I believe that is her brother. Koko is doing well and enjoys trips to our lake house. She loves swimming! Koko is now close to my family's and friends' dogs and loves to play with them.

Please let Benson and Benson's family know that Koko and I say hello. Thanks again for rescuing her and her family!

Eddy Capers Update

Hi just wanted to pass along this update. We kept his name because it's kind of fitting. Plus he's old and probably has had the same name for a long time. We really couldn't have asked for a better friend in Ed plus he really gets along fine with the kitties although he did steal one of their cat beds causing a minor rift at the very beginning. He also loves the laundry basket when I've just washed and dried clothes. Another favorite activity is tearing up beds so he can hide his bones in the covers while we're at work.
I wasn't working for a few months after my contract ran out at CNN, so I had a lot of extra time to spend with him and learn a bunch of his quirks which was awesome. He loves chasing anything that scurries which is hilarious - it's also just about the only time he really pulls at his leash if he's not in our back yard.

So, he's adjusted fine and pretty much thinks he's one of us and sleeps with his head on a pillow just like a human would and if you pull the covers up he gets really excited and will roll over and scoot back so he's leaning up against us which I love when it's cold. Our bed is now completely full with him plus the two cats! I think the best thing he does is he rushes to jump on the couch to peer out the window to watch us go down the path to our car whenever we leave the house. It's heartbreaking.
Since he's been living with us, he's had the little skin flaps on his eyes removed, had another cyst removed and has had a little more dental work to improve his formerly heavy breath. I've attached a bunch of pics for you to choose from if you end up putting this on the happy ending page.
Thanks so much for letting the greatest dog ever go home to live with us! His personality has just won us over.

Kayti Claire (formerly Kayti Krumbcake) Update

We adopted Kayti Claire in February. We currently had a Westie named McKenzie that we had gotten when her mom, a friend of ours, past away in 2006. We fell in love with her and the Westie breed. I had been looking for another Westie to adopt for a while and when we found Kayti Claire, I knew we had to have her. Her story was so much like McKenzie’s. Kayti Claire’s care giver had passed away, just like Kenzie’s. Kayti Claire had torn a ligament in her leg, just like Kenzie! We knew we would be able to love her and get her back in good health and have a wonderful dog and sister for Mckenzie! The two get along great and have lots of fun! Thank you Small Dog Rescue and Jenny!!

Max (fka McDreamy) Update

Just wanted to let you know that Maxx is doing great. He and I are settling in together – I absolutely love this little guy! He is the perfect dog – very well behaved, sweet, loving, smart, trainable, and NO accidents in the condo in the last month!
He still yowls when he hears someone at the door. And we are making progress on our walks every day, I'm teaching him to heel, and he walks by my side about 80% of the time (loose leash). He is slowly getting the point that I am the alpha, and I reinforce it every moment of every walk and don't let him walk ahead of me.

Ivy and Lola Update

Hi to all at SDR. Just wanted to update everyone that Ivie (white one) and Lola (obviously, the fawn one) will be celebrating their second birthday in a few weeks and we thought you may want to see how they have grown! They are the best! They are well behaved and love to run and play with the other dogs! They were so tiny when we first brought them home and they continue to do well. Lola had knee surgery for a luxating patella before she was a year old. She has done well and you would never know she ever had a problem! Of course, we have Margarita (aka Adele) from SDR, too! She will be three soon! We are so thankful for SDR and all they do. All of you (and of course the dogs still waiting for homes, wish we could take them, too) mean the world to us! Thank you again!

Spunky (formerly Hunky Hosta) Update

Spunky Boy (formally known as Hunky Hosta) is a lemon beagle who joined us in Nov. 2004. Even though we already had a tri-color beagle (Bailey) and an Australian cattle dog (Jesse), we couldn't resist his plight. Thought to be from a busted puppy mill, Spunky has a few little endearing quirks, which make him so uniquely special to us, and those around him. He snorts like a pig, snores like a tractor, and suffers from seizures (of which are well controlled with medication). He still loves to carry a small stuffed toy in his mouth, and when he can't find one, a sneaker will do just fine. He is a great snuggler when inside, and when outside, he is trailing whatever animal has been through the backyard, baying all the way. Spunky has a great life now, and he has certainly enriched ours. We hope his sister, Dory, is doing well. Thank you SDR!

Foggy Update

I adopted Foggy before XMAS 2007 and he is a great little dog. After a bit of nervousness the first night Foggy has had no problems. Foggy is blind but learned his way around my apartment in less than a day. By the second day, he was jumping on and off the couch; he mastered the bed after the third day. He loves to play with his toys and to pounce on me!

Foggy is a bit afraid of traffic noises but still enjoys walks. He struts quite proudly down the street. He is learning “sit” and “stay” and already understands “careful” which I say to warn him when something is in his way. His blindness is not a problem at all but more a source of amazement at how little it holds him back. Thank you so much for rescuing him!

Ginger (formerly DreamCatcher) Update

I adopted my dog from you just over a year ago (formerly known as Dreamcatcher). She is a love and I adore her! She went through a period of skin irritation, and my vet prescribed special food for her. Happily, the irritation has cleared, but I have some cans left over (7) - it's IVD Duck formula. Would that be something that any of your pups might need? I'll drop them by this Saturday or the next.

Keller Update

We can never thank Small Dog Rescue (SDR) enough for bringing canine joy back into our lives after our first rat terrier passed from mammary cancer. After looking in the newspaper and seeing your website, I started browsing through the precious photos and saw Keller. While his bio mentioned lack of sight, SDR was going to try some surgery and was asking for donations. We sent in a check.

After about a month, we went to one of the adoptions, and I saw a cute baby that I thought was Keller. Sure enough, his wonderful foster mom, Bonnie, was right behind me and suggested we hold Keller. Keller was the ONLY dog who was completely mellow at the adoption; he was napping, but we did disturb him from his snooze, and the rest is “puppy love” (although he was five years old). We drove away with him that afternoon, and he has brought so much love and joy into our lives. His sweet personality just continues to come forth, even four years later, and being blind does not stop him one bit. He is a curious, incredibly smart dog and so loving. I have taught him multiple commands, and he knows from the intensity of my voice the seriousness of the situation. We have a tri-level home as well as concrete steps down into the basement – I taught him “step up” and “step down” in no time. Please, please, please do not let what might seem like a handicap stop you from adopting a wonderful fur-child. Keller and I even run together at the park, and unless you look directly into his eyes would you ever guess that he has sight impairment. As you can see from the photos, he is incredibly cute and spoiled – he especially enjoys reclining on the loveseat on our porch. SDR is a fabulous organization, and we still keep in touch with foster mom Bonnie, so we made many friends the day we adopted Keller. He is such a delight! Thank you, SDR!

Brody (formerly Gumdrop) Update

This past February 11th we celebrated Brody's Gotcha-day; the day one year ago that we became his forever family. What a delightful, adventurous and exciting year it's been! Truth be told there were ups and downs in the beginning, from a sudden illness to behavioral concerns. And truth be told, there are ups and downs even now. Our wonderful vet tends to Brody's medical needs, the amazing Jenny Schneider set us on the right path to understanding and resolving the behavior issues, and his groomer Cindy has turned a raggamuffin into a prince!

What matters most to us is that Brody finally understands he's safe with us, loved by us, and he will never ever be abused again as we believe he was before SDR found him. Sure, he can be crotchety sometimes, but at his age, that's okay with us. We realize that adopting a "senior" can be challenging, but we also know that it's incredibly rewarding, fulfilling, and lots of fun. We are so proud of Brody and the progress he, and we, made during our first year together. Thank you so much for allowing both Brody and his younger "sister" Amelie to be such a big part of our lives.

Maggie Update

Maggie has been with us for 3 weeks now and is doing very well. She has 3 schnauzer brothers and sisters: Otto(13) , Zack(7) and Hillary(6). They have taught her to eat off a plate and bowl, play with dog toys, go up and down the stairs, jump up on the couch and chaise lounge to get 40 winks and explore the fenced in back yard. Maggie loves her low fat cookies and Sunday morning scrambled eggs as well as an occasional handful of cherrios! Attached is a photo of her with her schnauzer haircut and one with her brothers and sisters taking a nap on the couch in my office. According to the vet, she is in good health except for some crystals in her urine. Since this means she could have a tendency to form bladder stones ( very common in schnauzers), she is on special Hills Science U/D food. She loves it!

Charlie Congo Update

Charlie (Congo) and I just celebrated our 2 year anniversary together (Feb. 11). I cannot tell you how much I love this dog! His nicknames are Charles Flufferbutt (for his fluffy tail) and Sir Charles. He is the best thing ever. He is so sweet and well behaved. He goes with me everywhere. He even used to “work” at my part time job with me. I love him SO much, and I thank you for giving me the best Valentine’s Day present ever – my little Bubby!

Charlie also has a new puppy sister, that we rescued from a high kill shelter in Winder, GA, so he has puppy company now. Her name is Chloe. So we have Charlie and Chloe the dogs, and Chelsey the cat. I had to keep the Ch names going…!
Thank you for my Anniversary Puppy!

Charlie (formerly CJ) Update

Charlie is doing well; he’s still my best boy. We’ve had a couple of episodes that resulted in him being “expelled” from facilities and I just had to accept that Charlie isn’t going to do well in a pack or in a large group where no matter how often I tell the handlers that he is ball obsessive, they forget and it ends up in tears with poor Charlie getting the brunt of it. Caesar Millan isn’t right all of the time!!!
I have found a facility not far from us where he can have his own executive suite complete with ball-less walks and playtimes and with socializing in small numbers or not at all, depending on his mood. Apparently, they don’t believe in expelling the furkids although they’ve expelled a few parents!
We still are in training but will have to do more frequent sessions. Keep your fingers crossed for our little boy; he is so sweet and loving, just scared of the big world outside his kingdom sometimes.
I’m going to start saving my loose change; what a great idea! Best to you and everyone at SDR.

Moby Update

I thought I'd send an update - I adopted Moby in August 2006. (I loved the name so I kept it - and get so many comments on what a great name it is…and you never meet another Moby in the dog park!) Moby is the first dog that I've owned by myself, so once Moby and I figured each other out, and took a few classes, Moby has truly become the best dog ever. He's quite intelligent and can practically read my mind and knows what I want him to do and does it with little to no prompting. Even though he's 100% Beagle he never barks indoors and seldom barks outdoors.

He's such a ham and loves attention - he assumes that anyone who comes to our house to visit does so purely to see him. In return he's showered with tons of love and affection from everyone he meets, which of course he willingly accepts. He's made best friends with my pet sitter's sheep dog, which truly is a sight to see the two of them trotting next to each other. Everyone who's met Moby (even people who aren't necessarily "dog people") love him and comment on what a great dog he is and how lucky I was to find him.

Sunny (fka Wagtail) Update

James and I decided to get another dog. We already have a 2 year old brown Cockapoo named Rocky and we thought it was time to add to our family. When I went to the Small Dog Rescue website and saw Sunny?s little brown Cockapoo face staring at me from the screen, I just knew we had to have him in our family. And here we are, the 4 of us are now one big happy family! Rocky & Sunny sleep on the couch together during the day and sleep on our bed with us at night. They play with their toys, chase each other around in the backyard, and love our long weekend walks together. We feel so lucky and fortunate to have found Sunny and we hope he feels the same about us!

Thanks SDR & Linda for your help in making our family one member stronger!

She is an amazing addition to our home and we are thankful to all of you for finding her and allowing her to become a member of our family. Thank you for continuing to change lives! Best wishes in the new year!

Lula Lemongrass Update

A few months ago, I decided that I just had to have a dog. I had never really lived with out one, but my being sort of new to Atlanta, a recent home buyer, new job, etc. my fiancée, Walter, really tried to talk me out of it. Not that he didn’t want a dog, he did, but he said that the timing was all wrong. I didn’t necessarily believe all that because I had found a photo of a sweet little blond dog named Lula Lemongrass on the SDR website–and I just knew we had to meet her! It took me several weeks, but I finally convinced Walter to go and meet Lula, and it was love at first sight for both of us!
Even though Lula has been with our family for only 2 1/2 months, it feels as though she has always been there. We just couldn’t imagine our life without her. She is a sweet dog with a gentle personality; except when it comes to squirrels–then anything goes! Lula is always at our side, and I truly believe that she can understand what you say to her…and, amazingly, she has perfected the “doggie hug.” She actually puts her paw around you and lays her head on your chest–she is a total snuggle bug! She is very polite–what dog do you know who actually waits for you to have her leash in your hand before she jumps out of the car. She is a big hit with the dogs and the people at her daycare; they actually call dibs on her when we bring her in for a playdate! She loves riding in the car, and can leap amazingly high when she knows she is going for a walk.
Lula always has a smile on her face, and keeps us smiling constantly; she has found her way completely into our hearts. Thank you so much for bringing Lula into our family.

Peyton (fka Hustle) Update

We adopted Peyton (aka Hustle) back in late October/ Early November and have been so happy! He is the best dog we could of asked for (potty trained, quiet, sweet). He is a little more vocal now that he is comfortable and is spoiled rotten with toys. He celebrated his first Christmas with us and my entire family sent gifts for him that he opened himself! He even had his photo taken with Santa!

Peyton loves to snuggle up in our laps and sleeps for hours. He has made the recliner his spot and loves to go on visits to Grandma's house in the country. He loves the dog park and makes friends easily and everyone who meets him falls in love with him! Thank you so much for my baby! Peyton is our pride and joy!

Hippogriff (fka Durham) Update

We adopted Hippogriff (originally Durham) about 6 months ago. Now he's 10 months old. We knew he had some Beagle in him but now we're pretty sure he's got some Jack Russell Terrier, too. He's got LOTS of energy but can also be a sweet snuggler. Our 10 year old dog, Sly, is having a lot of trouble adjusting to him, but he's slowly becoming more comfortable. We expect their relationship to strengthen as Griff matures. Our family has fallen in love with Hippogriff and his crazy nature. He is almost always in a playful mood; all you have to do is sit on the floor and he'll start jumping at you for a chase. Being the beagle that he is, he's also very vocal and even seems to talk to us with all of the weird sounds that come out of his mouth. He used to be terrified of large dogs, running to us and screeching whenever one got too close, but after taking him to the dog park he's become much more comfortable with them. Now he makes friends with the huge wolfhounds that he meets there! We're having a ball watching Griff grow, and we are loving raising him.

Toby Tinsel Update

Joe and I want to say a BIG holiday Thank You for our very best present this year - Toby Tinsel! Thanks to your organization and to Jackie for taking such good care of him and "saving" him just for us.
He is a true delight - whether he is unloading the trash can under the cabinet, riding in his very own car seat, sleeping under the covers of our bed, or spending the evening watching t.v. from his perch in a convenient lap.
Toby sends greetings and wishes for a very happy new year to all his friends.

Bailey & Fang (fka Barbarella and King Kong) Update

On October 10, 2007 I wrote about my wonderful experience with the puppy I adopted from SDR. Bailey (aka Barbraella) is a Min Pin-Chihuahua mix. When I wrote about my love for Bailey something in my heart suddenly regretted leaving behind her brother, King Kong. At that moment I wished that I had adopted him too, and I mentioned this in my story.
As fate would have it the people who adopted King were unable to keep him and were returning him to SDR. I got a call from SDR asking me if I was interested in adopting him. At that moment I said to my self, what were you thinking, you already have two dogs of your own and one part time resident belonging to my step-daughter. I decided to offer myself as a foster mom to King to see how everyone got along.
After about two weeks my significant other was already renaming him...I knew for sure that we were both on the same page and the next step is adoption. I am sure you will agree from the attached picture that they belong together. King (now called Fang because of his cute overbite) is on the left and Bailey is on the right.
Once again, thank you SDR, from the bottom of my heart. Just give me the papers and tell me where to sign.

Oatie Update

Nancy and I have had Oatie (Oatmeal) for a little over a year now and thought we should check in. Oatie is a joy! He is such a loving dog and quite the character. When he wants attention he knows how to get it. If we are at the computer for too long he will sit next to you and do this cute howl / bark, kind of a talking bark. It gets Nancy laughing every time he does it. We just grab his toy and toss it and play fetch until he takes the toy off to his doggie bed to chew on.

I'm sending in two photos of Oatie, we decided to keep his name. Thanks for saving Oatie for us, he is a great little dog.

Amelie and Brody (fka Gumdrop) Update

Amelie has acquired a whole box full of assorted stuffed toys. She doesn't like balls or rubber things, just soft, chewy, mostly pink, small toys. Last email I mentioned she was a busy little dog. She's worn a path from her toy box in the kitchen sitting area to our bedroom, making trips with a mouthful of her chosen stuffed animal. Each toy is played with and enjoyed and then she returns to the kitchen, often returning the toy to the toy box and choosing another. Some days she has five or six toys on our bed and she growls and tosses her head and has the biggest time .... my guess is she's enjoying the puppyhood she never had. Brody doesn't exactly play but he will occasionally pick up a toy and toss it. Just today he picked up her pink octopus ran up the stairs with it in his mouth. She was right on his heels trying to get her toy back. Amelie loves to run along side him harassing and growling and grabbing his collar in her teeth. When we come in from a walk, and if we unleash her first, she'll take Brody's leash in her mouth and pull him through the house :) She's a joy and a treasure and very much spoiled. And I can't thank you and SDR enough for blessing us with such treasures.

Cody Update

Here is Cody, who found his forever home when he met his forever Dad, Rodney, in April of 2003. Cody has got a good gig, living the cool life of a suburbanite. Taking fun walks in the woods, hiking by the streams near the Chattahoochee River and kayaking on the river are some of Cody’s favorite pasttimes. He is the sworn enemy of cats and squirrels. He has his own Adirondack chair made for him by his Dad.

Sadie (fka Blondie) Update

I've attached a picture of Sadie, fka Blondie, who we adopted in August of 2005. She is the perfect example of what can come of patience!
After almost two years of silent "skittish" behavior and hiding from strangers, she finally came out of her shell seemingly overnight. It started with her first bark after 18 months, and now she happily participates in every social gathering possible. She went from a silent phantom to queen of the house quite quickly, as well. It was definitely worth the wait. She is a complete delight!
Thanks again!

Harry Potter Update
">
Thank you to everyone who has supported Harry - for your financial help, and for your prayers and moral support. Harry has truly benefitted from a miracle.

While Harry was in Tennessee being checked, SDR was contacted by a previous adopter. They read about Harry's trials and tribulations, and spoke with Pat, Harry's foster Mom. These folks adopted a tiny mistreated special needs poodle from us several years ago, and gave her the very best years of her life. They are dedicated, loving, saavy and simply wonderful people. They asked if they could adopt Harry. It doesn't matter to them that Harry may not live a long life, only that he will live the very best life he can.

Because of thier special history with SmallDog Rescue, because they have proven in the past that they will do whatever it takes to provide the care a special needs dog has, and because we are sure that Harry will receive the same stellar level of care he has received from us, our Board of Directors approved the adoption. Tonite, October 15, Harry is sleeping in his new bed with his forever family. We are confident that Harry is in the perfect place, and we look forward to updates from his people.

Again, thank you to EVERYONE who donated and prayed for this little boy. Harry's miracle came true, and YOU are the reason why.

Cody (fka Butch Sundance) Update

We adopted Cody September 2006 and he has been such a joy to bring into our home. He's now a few months shy of 2 years old and is about 50 pounds and in great health--here is a recent photo. Cody is an only dog (and child!) so he gets lots of attention around here (not to mention treats, toys, his own room, etc)! He is my daily walking/running companion and we visit the dog park every weekend--he loves being around other dogs and being chased! He also has lots of dog friends in the neighborhood and is quite the social butterfly. We love that he does not have a mean/aggressive bone in his body (although he puts up a good front when the UPS truck pulls up to the house or he spots a squirrel!). He's extremely affectionate, playful and has a great personality and demeanor; we love him so much.

Just wanted to let you know how grateful we are for Cody and how happy we all are--thank you SDR and his foster mom Kelly! You are a wonderful organization.

Sincerely,
Amy

Bailey (fka Barbarella) Update

This is Bailey aka Barbarella. We love her to death. She has the longest legs and is as tall as our Min Pin Shelby but half the weight. They get along great and Shelby doesn't even mind (too much) sharing the spotlight. For some reason Bailey loves to lick Shelby's ears...and Shelby lets her. We have some issues with where to potty...she alternates between the yard and the dinning room. The problem is that she is so fast that I have a hard time catching her in the act in order to properly correct her. By the way this is a picture of her resting on my knee while I am the computer. You can't help but love a face like that. My biggest regret is that I didn't adopt her brother, King Kong at the same time.

Thank you, SmallDog Rescue, from the bottom of my heart!

Tilly (fka Satilla) Update

Hi SmallDog Staff!
It's been 18 months of sharing my home with Tilly. To say the least, it has been fabulous all the way around! Tilly's personality has continued to evolve, proving to be a very funny, intelligent character! She is well loved by everyone who meets her. Those who met her when I first brought her to her new home, recall the mange, her dingy coat, her palpable trepidation, nervousness and how easily startled she was. They will still remark on how wonderfully she's done and is so relaxed compared to those days.

Tilly has evolved through days of staying glued to my side to meandering around at leisure, going to sleep wherever she likes, sunbathing any chance she gets - since I work from home these days, she is getting a lot of time on the patio! She has other doggy friends in the neighborhood - Blue, Bella, Lilly, Dunkin', Barabus, Blue (another Blue), Sushi, Sake, Kink, Whatley, Tess AND a calico kitty (we don't know it's name) who has warmed to and approaches Tilly whenever they see each other. We all think that she is a total sweetheart and is absolutely adorable!

Tilly has cuteness down pat and charms all of us, entertains us to tears of laughter and joy! I can't thank you enough for finding Tilly and for holding the adoption days as you do! I love this sweet little girl SO much! Thank you!!!

Bucky O'Neill Ross Update

It has been just over 2 weeks since Bucky O'Neill came into our lives, and in that time he has managed to win over our hearts with his sweet and gentle demeanor, good manners, and friendliness toward everyone he meets. He has brought so much joy into our lives in such a short amount of time; we are all totally smitten with him. After some initial adjustments, he has eased into life in our home with amazing swiftness. We may have rescued this dog, but we feel that we are the lucky ones to have a such a sweet soul now living with us. Already he has taught us a lot about trust, unconditional love and gratitude.

Bucky is such a lovebug! He rolls over for belly rubs every chance he gets and loves to snuggle, too. He jumps at the chance to ride in the car and has enjoyed his walks around Chastain Park with us.

We took it slowly introducing Bucky to our 10 year old cat, Mango. We are now happy to report that they seem totally comfortable around each other. We credit Bucky with understanding that Mango has the last word on things. He defers nicely to the cat, and the cat in turn is friendly back. All in all, the best scenario we could have hoped for.

We want to thank everyone at SDR who took such good care of Bucky until we could become his forever family. Special thanks to Katja Liendjens, our screener and Jenny Schneider, animal trainer extraordinaire recommended by SDR. Both have become fast family friends. They have been totally accessible and responsive to us every step of the way. Their professionalism and dedication reflect highly on the caliber of wonderful folks and animal rescue services provided by SDR.

Hannah and Taco (formerly Helen)Update

We are all doing great. Can you believe next month Taco and I celebrate four years together? In fact Thursday she has an appt. for her annual. She is so much fun and still gets bolder all the time. It's just this year that she's been able to roll over on her back for a tummy rub. She has several friends she gladly greets and if it's a stranger she comes to sit on mom's lap but I truly can't remember the last time I saw her shake.

And then there's Hannah. Hannah gives me reason to get up every morning, she is such a joy. I tell people she is part chihuahua and "part something nuts!" She's calmed down a lot but she still thinks every day is full of adventure. And you would never know the two were not raised together as you can see. Hannah and I just celebrated our third anniversary!

I hope to get one of them up for a visit some Saturday. Hannah doesn't do well in a hot car (and she's nuts anyway!) but maybe Taco would like to visit (well, probably not but Mom would like to show her off!)

Grover Grovetown Update

I adopted Grover (a Clumber Spaniel) over a year ago from y'all at Petco on Roswell Road, and wanted to let you know he's doing very well. I love him dearly, and he's completely house-trained now. All the dogs in the neighborhood know him, as well as my neighbors who can't even remember MY name!

We discovered Grover has food allergies, so he only eats Science Diet Z/D from the vet now (both wet and dry). But he's worth every penny!

Anyway, just wanted to let you know he alive, well, and chasing all the squirrels in Atlanta. er!

Matilda (fka Miss Good Humor) Update

I've been meaning to write you for quite a few months and give you an update on Matilda (Missy Good Humor) and I apologize for my poor correspondence manners!
In short, Matilda is not the same dog she was a year ago. She loves playing with other dogs, she loves people doting on her, and she could play tug-o-war with her rope toy until my arm fell off! She's developed quite a personality!
She loves going to Doggie Day Care and taking long "sniff" filled walks in the park. I've attached a picture I took of her today right after numerous belly rubs from everyone who thinks she's the cutest mutt they've ever seen!
Thank you so much for letting me make her part of my home. I can't imagine it without her!

Soleil (now Fenway) Update

It's been about 2 1/2 weeks since I adopted Fenway and she is doing great.  She is so much fun to have around.  It's amazing how quickly we have gotten attached to one another, and she is without a doubt my new best buddy.  Fenway follows me wherever I go in the house and has to know where I am at all times.  At the same time, she has gotten quite used to her new home and the surrounding area.

I am lucky to live very close to work and to Piedmont Park, and Fenway is definitely reaping the benefits!  We get to go on 3-4 short/medium walks a day as well as one long walk in the park most mornings.  Fenway absolutely loves the dog park there and runs around it like a greased lightning bolt, never tiring (she also gets QUITE dirty whenever we go).  This morning, she went running in the park with me and the boot camp class I teach--she sprinted up and down some steep hills and jogged all over the park, always by my side at the front of the pack.

One interesting story happened this past week in the park.  We ran into another owner and her dog, Sedona.  I couldn't get over how alike they looked, except for the color of their coats.  Lori (Sedona's mom) and I talked in length about the traits and behaviors of our pups, and it is uncanny how alike they are (they have also become fast friends!).  As it turns out, Sedona was also rescued this year by SDR--what a coincidence!  Sedona is a Spitz/Border Collie mix and Fenway was listed on the SDR site as a Spitz/Golden Retriever mix. However, the more I look at Fenway and compare her to Sedona, I believe she is more Border Collie than Golden...perhaps I'll get that new DNA blood test done on her to find out just what's inside this energetic girl.

Fenway definitely likes to herd other dogs...and people.  Often, when a strange dog or person approaches, she will sit or get really low to the ground and "stare them down."  I've read that this is B. Collie behavior.  It often intimidates other dogs, and, moreso, their owners.  She loves to play with other dogs, but is sometimes a little too aggressive about it.  We're improving on these things little by little and just had our first day of obedience training this past Saturday.  She loved the first class and earned lots of treats.  I will certainly keep you posted on her progress.

Thanks again for helping me find my new best friend!

Rudy(fka Royston) Update

Last November, just before Thanksgiving, Mark and I adopted Rudy (formerly Royston), and he has been such a blessing in our lives. Although he is blind, you would never see it as a handicap. He learned his way around our multi-level house and yard within a day! He has also learned ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and waits for his paws to be wiped after returning from a wet yard. He travels with us to our cabin and hikes with us on wooded paths, is always open to new people and dogs, and works at home beside Mark every day. His love for life and joy in every day adventures makes him a delight to everyone he meets. We are so lucky to have him and are grateful to SmallDog Rescue for finding this baby and letting us share our lives with him. (I've enclosed a couple recent pictures; they were taken after a bath with his special allergy shampoo and his collar may not show. However, he wears his collar and tags all the time. I hope you'll post them so that everyone can see how precious he is.)

Bum (fka Bumblebee Elba) Update

Bumblebee Elbe is now "Bum" Bottomley. Found wandering around the countryside dressed in a child's Halloween costume in the middle of winter, he had to have one of the strangest stories we ever heard. Then there was that funny looking underbite - his looks were definitely "unique". You can tell from the photo that he is a beloved member of our family, gets along great with our other dogs, and a special companion to our son.

We will never know what led to his costumed journey, but we do know that he is one of the sweetest, most loyal, gentle, loving dogs we have ever known. Thank you, SDR, for saving a dog that wasn't quite "small".

Wendy Update

This is Wendy, fka Wonder Woman. As her forever Mom, every time I look at a picture of her when she first came into my life and look at her now I'm just blown away. She's my little "blond bombshell"! In more ways than one! She was so flea infested when SmallDog got her that she had lost most all of her hair. Not to mention her skin was red and scabby from flea bites! She was a mess! There were a couple of months when I was beginning to wonder if her hair would EVER grow and then one day I looked down and I couldn't believe my eyes! Granted, she still has "issues" but I wouldn't trade her for anything!!! My Wendy, my little spitfire! Golly I love this little gal!

Sedona Update

I can't thank you enough - Sedona has changed my life!!! She is truly my BF!
She is the most wonderful little girl! We have bonded tremendously and she really is just perfect! She is taking private training lessons to help with the loose leash walking since she loves to pull me... other than that she is such a well behaved loving companion. I am so lucky. She is such an intelligent dog and has really learned her commands very quickly. She is great at responding to leave it, come, sit, down, shake, watch me.
Sedona is very popular in doggie daycare (which she goes 3xs a week), all around the neighborhood, in my building, and at the Piedmont Dog Park. She is a lightning bolt!!!!! Let her off the leash there and she leaves dust in the wind!! The other dogs have a good time trying to catch her and she just looks back and smiles at them like "HA, you'll never catch me!" Dogs, people, children and all the like just adore her! She just wants to love you and lick you to death! lol It was a relatively slow adjustment for her and the 2 kitties but they have all learned to live in harmony and share the affection from me. Compared to some stories I have heard - I would say the acclimation phase went rather quickly and we are very lucky. Sedona and Riley (my youngest kitty) have a love/hate relationship. lol One minute they are curled up on the couch next to each other ... the next minute Riley is hissing and spitting reminding Sedona who lived here first! lol Its harmless though. One of Sedona's favorite outtings is to come with me next door to Quattro, an outdoor cafe that allows pups and the staff plays with her, gives her treats, fresh water in a bowl and she makes friends with all the other patrons in surrounding tables. lol She loves to sit there and pigeon stalk too!! Its hysterical watching her - she hasnt learned yet that she will NEVER catch them!! lol Her all time favorite place to visit is my brother Glenn's house. I am very lucky to have them close by. Everytime I go over there I take her. Also, when I go out of town, Sedona will stay with them for a couple days. They have a dog Chloe who is the same size as Sedona. In fact, most of Glenn's neighbors do a double take and think they are twins! Well, she just looooves her cousin and vice versa. The two of them are just soooo cute to watch. They play for hours and hours, chase, tug-a-war, racing in the backyard, wrestling... until they are all tuckered out... and then they will both curl up together fast asleep in front of the TV in my brothers family room. Its precious!
So, needless to say ALL IS WELL!! We are very happy! She gobbles up her Interceptor heartworm medication the first of every month. I think she thinks its a treat. She is also responding well to the Advantix flea, tick and mosquito. It seems to really work. Living on the park I was concerned about the fleas and mosquitos but she never scratches so it must be working well.
I mention your organization to everybody.... I promise to recommend only good homes for all the other loving dogs in need of a loving family.

Chloe Pudwin (fka Corsiva) Update

Hi there, Just want to send an update on Chloe Pudwin (fondly, Puddin', formerly Corsiva)! She has been with me for fifteen months, and I can't imagine the household without her sweet little personality. She loves snuggling in the morning, and anytime we're on the couch - she takes her "job" very seriously and is the best love-bug ever! Puddin' literally smiles when her tummy is rubbed, and sometimes when I come home after errands she screams with delight. Most of the time when she notices I'm going to leave she'll look for my purse or her carry bag, and sit on top of it in hopes that she gets to go bye-bye (which she does if it's not too hot or we're not going out for long). She always brings a smile to my face and warms my heart.
Puddin' got through her two surgeries with flying colors for the patella luxation she had in both hind legs (I was aware of this when I adopted her, given her "egg-beater" walk), and therefore won't have any ligament or bone problems as she ages - so she'll have an additional 4-5 years on her life!
She gets prettier every day and her personality continues to bloom. Grandma and Grandpa (and doggie sister Celci) love her to death, referring to her as their "granddog", we visit them often - it's our second home, where Puddin' loves to run around the swimming pool barking at Celci and bask in the sun on the lawn.

I'm so very grateful to SDR for all you do, and particularly for saving my Puddin' and bringing her into my life! Attached is a photo of Puddin' playing super-dog under the covers, and one with Grandpa as she reluctantly tries out the swimming pool!
Best regards,

Artemis (fka Vivianne Westwood) Update

We adopted Artemis, formerly known as Vivianne Westwood, almost six months ago. She was named after the Greek Goddess of the hunt and youth. Little did we know that days later she would live up to her name (look at picture). She is keeping our yard safe from "furry friends" who have, in the past, eaten many of our hostas. She spends her days chasing squirels (which she has always gotten close to succed in catching one) and other rodents. Artemis loves to get rubbed and hugged on by her family. She loves to get little "treats" by her daddy, and likes to surpise us and pop up at the table while we're eating dinner. She loves her canine brother Fritz, both like to be "mommy's little babies." We have no idea how anyone could have given her away.

Baxter (fka Neville Longbottom) Update

We adopted Baxter in June and he has brought so much joy to our family! He is such a great dog - everyone loves him! When we first brought him home, he still had stitches from being neutered, so he was slow-going. Boy has that changed! After almost a month in our home, he is running up the steps like his tail is on fire, playing, snuggling and licking our faces like we have peanut butter on them. He is the happiest dog! He's even gained a little weight too, making him even more handsome!
Thank you so much Small Dog Rescue and Humane Society for all you do. We are truly grateful for your service in the community and for helping us find Baxter a loving home.
All the best, the Lindsey Family

Nikki Update

My husband and I will be bringing Nikki who was adopted in February 2002 and her friend Shadow (both pictured). I hope Nikki's daughter Sugar (who was adopted the week before)and her family attends. It would be wonderful to see how they are doing and if the two dogs still recognize each other. Thanks for setting this up...I was going to see if I could get contact information on Sugar's adoptive parents to see if they would like to meet and compare notes on the two Pomeranians. They were rescues from a puppymill and Nikki has gone through some very positive changes since she was adopted.

Buffy (fka Junie B) Update

Hi there! I thought I’d let you know how things worked out for me (the former Junie B.) My parents named me Little Miss Tatonka, but they call me Buffy for short. I was really shy and timid at first, and the older rescue dog that was already here in my new home was kind of mad at me all of the time. I went to boarding school for a couple of weeks to learn how to behave, and when I came back I was full of new found confidence! Now my big sister and I get along great, and we even share the same food and water bowl when we feel like it. I love playing with my older sister, laying in the sun and running figure 8s around the house. I also love to bark, and sometimes even bark at imaginary squirrels. I am very agile and quick, so my parents are even thinking about sending me for agility training. I think I would like that very much! I know I have very good balance, too. I especially like to walk along the back of the couch and jump up on the table if the humans leave any food out. Thank you SmallDog Rescue for saving me. I am so very, very happy in my new home. Hopefully I will get to see you all at the SmallDog function real soon!
Love, Buffy

Ruby Update

Yea, she kinda got a little fat….which is why we now call her the Pig-dog!! She is so funny….she lays at the food bowl and just moves her head over to the bowl to get the kibble….of course, when she is NOT playing with the kibble…she loves to take the morsel in her mouth and fling it across the room, then pounce on it…I guess she is practicing for something! And another nickname is "Fruit-Bat"…the silly dog loves fruit! If she hears me break a banana off the bunch, she follows me to the sofa and then pops up into the sit up position and hits me with one foot until I share the banana with her! We have yet to find a fruit she doenst like! Bananas and bing cherries are favorites, but peaches, oranges, pineapple, and even tomatoes and carrots are not off limits! The Vet said if she wants it, let her have it…she can have any fruit but grapes, so we make sure she doesn’t steal any of those! We also bought them matching pirate scarves when we were in Key West this past fall and decided when they are wearing their scarves, they are not ruby and maggie, but Pillage and Plunder. Ruby is Pillage, cause you can count on her leading the charge on finding trouble and then once it is found, Maggie, or Plunder, jumps right in and continues the mayhem! I sure do love that silly little dog!!! Thought you would enjoy the update!

Mr Goodbar update

It’s been a little over a year that we’ve had Mr. Goodbar (shortened to Mr. Gee) and he’s been an absolute delight. Not only has he adopted our other Jack Russell, Sparky, but he’s become the love of our life. Unfortunately, Mr. Goodbar was diagnosed with a form of leukemia about 6 months after we got him but with a steady regimen of chemo he’s cancer free and we think coming up on his 16th or 17th birthday. Even with the cost and difficulty dealing with his cancer we wouldn’t want another dog. He was obviously someone’s much loved dog when we received him and he remains in good hands although sometimes I look at him and wish I knew his circumstance and if he’s still missed by his original owner.

Bob update

I wanted to send an update on Bob the dog. I adopted him back in 2004. I took him home to foster, and well.......the rest is history. He is so funny and serves as great comedic relief in my household. He's always trying to lighten the mood by wagging his tail no matter what the occasion. He loves to play chase around the house and he gets pretty vocal when playing the game. He loves a good belly rub and is a very affectionate little boy in return. During the day, he acts as border patrol in the backyard to make sure no one or thing is trying to invade the territory. However, because of how seriously he takes his job, we've nicknamed him Bob "Barker." (Not sure the neighbors are real thrilled.) But never the less, he is a happy, healthy boy these days! I just got this candid photo of all three of my babies, together, resting on the couch so thought I would share. Bob is on the left, and Petie is in the middle, and Kai is on the right. Take care!

Calvin (formerly Spiderman) update

We first met Calvin at a Small Dog Rescue event in October 2006, and he was an extremely shy little boy. I was afraid he might never come out of his crate. We came back a week later to visit him again and left with him that day.
Since then, he has brought more joy to our lives than we could have ever imagined! He is the liveliest little dog and absolutely LOVES to play!! He has more toys than many families with 3+ children. We keep all his toys in a basket and by the end of every day he manages to take all of them out for us. We have spoiled him quite well, but we can’t help it. That little face is just too cute.
His original name was Spiderman, but we’re not quite sure where that came from because we can’t even get him to jump on the couch. We got him some stairs for him to climb up and since then it has been his favorite spot.
Calvin graduated from a doggy training class about a month ago and left with all kinds of new friends and new tricks. We’re such proud parents! There’s no hope for us teaching him to speak since we’ve only heard him bark twice since we’ve gotten him. He sure is a quiet, but an extremely intelligent little guy.
I often call him "bunny" because when he runs he looks like a little bunny rabbit. It’s more of a deer prance or a hop than a run. It’s so cute! He’s also well known for his infamous 360 degree spins when he gets excited. He takes off in circles around the house when you get him going. He is always so energized in the mornings and will come paw at my face to let me know it’s time to get up and play. Our favorite pose is when he is playing and sticks his fanny in the air while keeping his front end on the ground.

He absolutely loves other dogs, and his favorite thing to do is to go to the Piedmont dog park in Atlanta to romp around with the other doggies. Everyone always teases me that he is the welcoming committee there.
We love Calvin so much!! Thank you SmallDog Rescue for helping us find our little bunny.

Rosie and Sadie (formerly Tia Maria and Calina) update
BEFORE:

Well, it's been 9 months since we rescued our little old ladies--Tia Maria and Calina -- who are know affectionately known as Rosie and Sadie. Thought you might like to see their before and after pics.
They are a true delight. . Wish we knew something about their past, but when they let out a collective big sigh while settling into bed, I just know they are feeling safe, secure and loved. As submissive as they both are, a bit of sibling rivalry has just emerged. This has truly been a great experience.

Toby (Formerly Thomas Burberry) Update

I just wanted to send you an update on Thomas Burberry who I adopted a little over 3 weeks ago. He is doing wonderful!! I have changed his name to Toby as Burberry was quite a mouthful when calling his name. I guess Toby is kind of like a nickname for Thomas Burberry :)
Attached are a couple of pics of Toby. He is such a sweet little guy who loves to run around and play outside and cuddle up on the sofa inside. He has met a lot of my friends and loves everyone he meets and of course everyone adores him too and his cute personality. He is also wonderful with children; such a sweet and happy little dog.
