adopted from SmallDog Rescue, we'd love to hear from you! |
Maple Update![]() Hello, We adopted Maple just yesterday, and, I have to say, she is the most adorable little sweetheart that we have ever had in our home! We have four other dogs, two cocker spaniels and two poodles. As soon as we brought Maple home, the other dogs fell in love with her, and her with them. It's really great to have a new dog that fits into the family so splendidly as Maple does. She slept with me last night, along with the other three girls (Reeses, the male, prefers sleeping under the bed), and when I woke up this morning, Maple was curled up on my neck. My son snapped this pic just before I woke up. She L-O-V-E-S to cuddle! She cuddles all day and never complains. I can feel the love emanating from her and into me when she sits with me. That's just what I needed as the Poodles are still puppies and would rather be playing when I want to rest and cuddle. Thank you SO much for allowing us the opportunity to adopt Maple into our family and into our home! I will get in a picture of all my doggie babies together as soon as I possibly can. Rocky Green (formerly Rocky Kronos) Update | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I adopted Rocky on November 14, 2009 which was my sons 10th birthday under the guise of him being a "birthday dog" for my son. Rocky has stolen all of our hearts, but has definitely only got eyes for me! I am the luckiest object of affection that anyone can imagine. Rocky has been the easiest, sweetest dog that has ever come into our family. He loves snuggling, playing, running, taking the kids to school with me and just generally being a member of the Green family. My best friend lives next door and Rocky has become BFF's with her dog Leo. They are best pals and love playing together. I can't even imagine my life without him now! Thank you sooooo much for rescuing this amazing member of our family! Submitted by Alison , May 11, Rocky Kronos2010
Little Pepper (Formerly Little Annie) Update | ![]() Well little Pepper is doing great! She is having so much fun. She gets along with all the neighbor dogs, people, everyone. We had her out all day yesterday in the lawn, our neighbor's Maltese came over to play and they romped with Lucy all day long. She is so adorable and so smart. She has her first Vet appointment this Thursday. I take her to the office, (I take care of my brother's boat business books) and she greeted everyone with her adorable little face and wagging tail. She eats very well, does a little tappity tap with her feet when she has to potty and drinks a river after playtime. She is an absolute Angel. Here is a pic of her on my desk at work and one of her with my Mom who, by the way, can't keep her hands off of her! I love seeing my Mom smile and laugh and play with her. She has a GREAT life! Paco (formerly Hiram Walker) Update | ![]() ![]() ![]() Just wanted to send you a quick note along with some pictures of Paco. It's hard to believe Paco has been in our family for 4 years now! He is as fun and loving as always. Paco, his brother Pepe and I send you our warm regards and a great big thank you! Submitted by Eddy , May 18, 2010
Kirby (formerly Espresso) Update | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SDR - how can we ever thank you enough, especially Ms Pat for saving Espresso from the shelter! God really had a plan when we arrived on his first day on display at Petco in Sandy Springs. The 1st photo is the day I met our sweet Kirby (formerly Espresso) - it was LOVE at 1st hug. We held on to him all afternoon; good thing - now he's got our hearts & is in our home too! The other pictures were taken by a co-worker when I brought Kirby to the office to meet my work friends. Never thought we could love again (after our 2 Jack Russell Terriers passed), but WOW have we been blessed with our darling Kirby. I wake up every morning to that adorable, funny, little face. He loves to play with his toys (especially his squeaky "hot dog"), play with his new friends Lucy, Scruffy & Benji & go for walks - all the kids want to pet Kirby. Kirby is quite a jumper; we hope to harness that energy & take him to a Frisbee park or dog race trial. He enjoys just hanging out & getting brushed & loves to give hugs to Mommy & Daddy (we call him Lover Boy), although he gets very jealous when Daddy hugs Mommy! He is so awesome & makes my day! SDR Rocks! Submitted by Susan, May 20, 2010
Sunny (formerly Wagtail) Update | ![]() We adopted Sunny (fka "Wagtail") in January 2008. He is such a huge part of our lives and we love him so very much. On June 24, Sunny will have cataract surgery on his left eye by Dr. Powell-Johnson at Atlanta Veterinarian Eye Clinic. We are so excited for him to have a healthy eye again. He is probably about 8 years old, but acts like a young little puppy, so I am sure this procedure will just put even more spring in his step! We will let you know how it goes and post a picture of his "new eye" after he is all healed. Thanks again Small Dog Rescue. You guys are the best! Submitted by Shelly, June 2, 2010
Cali (Calzone) and Paisley (La Paz) Update | ![]() ![]() We adopted Paisley this past summer to give Cali a playmate. After a brief test run, Paisley picked Cali, Josh and I to be her forever family. Paisley is a true lover. All she wants to do is be in your lap and gives you kisses! The pups play all the time, with Paisley nipping at Cali's heals and Cali reminding her who is boss. Paisley has the speed while Cali has that true Min Pin bounce. While the dogs didn't quite enjoy the 11+ hour trip to their new home in Maryland, they have adjusted to their new house well. They love to run up and down the stairs, in circles around the couch, and in their new back yard. It has certainly been colder than they are used to, and each have warm winter coats for the Maryland winter. Our first big snow in December brought 18 inches and bitter cold. They tolerated their new boots, but seemed to forget how cold their were when they were running and playing in the snow. The snow ended up being higher than they were - we had to dig them a trail in the back yard so they could walk Submitted January 29, 2010
Charlee Update (then Osric) Update | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Three words...WE LOVE CHARLEE!! Charlee aka: Choochie, Char-bar, Chooch, or Char. We adopted our sweet little man a year ago this coming Valentines day, and he has warmed our hearts ever since. We had already had a 1 and 1/2 year old doxie named Honey that turned us into hard core dachshund fans. So when I saw Charlee I knew he had to be apart of our family. Our two children (Honey and Charlee) are best of friends and are always by each others side. They both love to snuggle together and with us. Our two babies are our worlds and we Thank God for bringing our Charlee in our life. My husband and I could not be more happy. We love family snuggle time and enjoy just seeing our 2 babies play. They make us laugh so hard with their strong personalities. They are spoiled rotten by us and the grandparents. They have about 80 toys (no lie) and sleep all snuggled in our big bed every night (under the covers I might add). We just love our babies. Submitted by Jenny, February 10, 2010
Sariputta & Moggallana Update | ![]() ![]() Here are some pictures of the guys that I adopted in December 2006 & February 2007. Eeyore is now "Sariputta", and Ozzy Osbourne became "Moggallana". The two names are the names of the two major disciples of the Buddha, and little did I realize how right on their names would be. Moggallana (the disciple) was known for his mental powers, and could disappear and re-appear at will. Moggallana (the dog) will be on one side of the door; I will open the door and look back to see where he was and he will have disappeared; I look back inside the door and he will have re-appeared there. Sariputta (the disciple) was known for his ability to explain the teachings of the Buddha. Sariputta (the dog) has regaled me with his tales for hours on end--he has a curious way of moving his lips while he is "talking" that is hilarious. I have never known a dog to have such a variation in vocal tones. Speaking of disappearing--when I took the picture of the two dogs and noticed that Moggallana had his tongue out, I quickly took another picture--but when I looked at the result, only Sariputta was in the picture. Moggallana was too quick for me to get a second picture. Y'all were very right about the relationship between the two--they do not play together at all. Moggallana is definitely the alpha dog; and Sariputta is the omega dog. But they have gotten used to each other, and I can see that when one has to go with me to the vet by himself, the other wonders what is going on, so I think they do relate to each other, though not as most dogs do. Sariputta (Eeyore) had bladder surgery to remove bladder stones in March 2007, after he had an ultrasound done to see if he had cancer. My previous dog had started sleeping half-in and half-out of his doggie bed toward the end of his life before he died of cancer, and Sariputta was doing that, too. So I wanted to see if Sariputta was getting cancer, too. The vet didn't find cancer, but he did find bladder stones, so Sariputta had surgery for that in March 2007. Then I took him to an eye doctor to see if he could be helped in that way. She found cataracts in both eyes, and in April 2007, he had cataract removal and lens replacement surgery in both eyes. He recovered from both surgeries with flying colors, and has become a very much more lively dog. He is very patient with me when I give him his 4 eye meds 3 times a day. His ears have become much better since I put him on an all-fish diet. That was after going through several changes in diets with little change in his ear status. They have become much cleaner with this last change in diet, though he is getting a bit less interested in his food than when he was getting other kinds of meat. Moggallana (Ozzy Osbourne) is still the lively dog that he was when you had him, and he has become less reactive than when I first got him. He & I went to a 6-week course in agility in 2008, because he has such an amazing balancing ability, and he was so quick to learn things. Unfortunately, I had not realized that one of the major things I needed to train him before the class was to pay attention to ME. He was forever wanting to run off in another direction or wanting to sniff the apparatus rather than jumping over it or going through or over it, so I never really had him off-leash for the classes. Still he loved being with the other dogs, especially after class, when they got to run around in the enclosure. I want to thank SDR for allowing me to take two of your dogs. We have become a very congenial family with a lot of fun times together. Submitted by Jane, February 14, 2010
Pip Update | ![]() I got Pip in June 2009 and wanted to share his first play in the snow! Submitted by Sarah, February 16, 2010
Miss Clairins Update | ![]() ![]() It was a little over a year ago that we adopted Missy aka Miss Clairins. She has turned out to be the funniest little clown you could ever meet! Coming from a puppy mill past, it took sometime for her real personality to come out... It's out and we can't quite laughing! Sweet, Silly, Playful and Trusting are some of the traits that we enjoy on a daily basis. I can't Thank you enough for bring her into our lives! I have three letters to describe Missy....OMG! Submitted by Sandra , February 17, 2010
Chubby Hubby and Chunky Monkey | ![]() WE BELIEVE. WE BELIEVE!!!!! We dragged our mommy up here this year to see Santa again since we were such good boy's this year. We made sure Santa got told everything we wanted. Chunky Monkey and Chubby Hubby Submitted by Santa, December 12, 2009
Nutmeg Update | ![]() ![]() ![]() Nutmeg came to live with us in early September 2009. She had a lot of fun (as did we as we watched her and worked with her) learning about her new house and her new neighborhood. She has met lots of friends in the neighborhood, and definitely has her favorites. Nutmeg has also visited several dog parks in the Atlanta area, and always enjoys the socialization. Her favorite place in the house is the master bed, cuddled between the two king size pillows, tail over her nose always. Toys are now all over the house - balls, toy ducks and squirrels, chewy bones, and toss-ropes. If we are on the computers, she starts in our laps, eager to help, but quickly gets bored and finds a comfortable pillow on the floor next to us to nap. She loves the two walks a day she gets, and she travels each day in her car seat to Greg's office where she serves as the "office manager"! She still makes MONKEY sounds when she gets excited - people are always taking a second look. She has traveled to Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and North Carolina - she enjoys camping and taking hikes in the mountains. We love her so much, and she brings more joy than we ever thought possible every single day. Thanks to all of SDRs staff and volunteers for taking care of our little girl before she found her way into our hearts. Submitted by Greg & Ricky & Nutmeg, December 12, 2009
Salma Update | ![]() Thank you a million times for bringing me Lucille (Salma) on July 4th... She has become a full blown member of the family and we all love her dearly. We walk a lot and everyone in the neighborhood knows her by name. I can only tell you how thankful I am to have her. Submitted by Francis, November 23, 2009
Chompers (formerly Walrus) Update | ![]() ![]() We adopted Walrus (aka, Chompers) about 4-5 weeks ago and I just wanted to give you an update. Chompers is doing very very well. He seems to love his new home and he immediately bonded with my son. Chompers loves to eat and sleep and just have company around. We have not heard any noise from Chompers yet, so we are wondering if he really does ever bark - but he is so well behaved and just so content and happy in his "dog world" that nothing ever seems to bother him. Chompers went to vet and got looked over. He is in great health. He still needs his eye medication daily to give him some moisture in the eyes. He could also use some dental work eventually, but overall he is a very healthy pug. We decided to get Chompers a friend, so he was not lonely during the day while I worked. We adopted another Pug, named Lola, from SEPRA. Lola is a 6 year old female who just adores Chompie. They sleep together and walk together and seem to just love each. The closer they can get to each other on the dog bed, the better, it seems. Here is a picture of Chompers and then a second picture of Chompers and Lola together. All is happy in Pug Land - so thank you to Small Dog Rescue for allowing us to bring Chompers into our home. We love him! Submitted by Tracy, October 6, 2009
Stuey Update | ![]() ![]() ![]() I wanted to let you all know that Stuey is still doing great. He is so loving and fun to play with...lots of energy! He adores my daughter and sleeps on her bed every night. During the day he follows me everywhere. Right now he is laying behind me in my chair, which is his usual spot if I'm working on the computer. Stuey has lifted the spirit of older dog, Jake, who was grieving the loss of our other dog. We have the best fun watching the two play with each other. You can tell that Jake enjoys Stuey's companionship and Stuey enjoys getting Jake to play with him. Jake hasn't played like that in years. Stuey is the sweetest little dog whom we love very much. Submitted by June, October 29, 2009
Jheri Redding Update | ![]() ![]() ![]() It has been one year since I adopted Jheri Redding - his name is now Dexter. He has been such an enrichment to my life - adopting him was one of the best decisions I've ever made! He fit right in with the household consisting of me and his feline brothers. Well, he did chase them a little (and still does every so often), but everyone gets along just fine. He LOVES to ride in the car and enjoys going on long walks. And, he accompanies us on family vacations. He sleeps with me most nights, but sometimes likes to lay in his bed in the bedroom. He even likes baths! And he helps me "cheer" during football games (his cheer is more of a singing howl). He is a bit of an attention hog and makes his presence known if I am focused on the cats. Although we had a minor issue with thunderstorm phobia (and 3 destroyed blinds), we are both doing better with that now. He also has dry eye in both eyes, but we have gotten that under control and his eyes are doing much better. I really can not remember how my life was before I got him. He is so well-behaved and laid back - he has never made a potty mistake. I've gotten compliments from the vet's and the groomer's about what a good dog he is. It was obvious he was a beloved pet before I got him, so I hope that whatever journey he went through to make it to me wasn't too horrible. But, I believe that we're a match made in heaven! Thanks to Small Dog Humane Society for all you do in helping these dogs find loving forever homes! Submitted by Salli and Dexter, October 20, 2009
Buster Update | ![]() Valerie & Ron thought they were adopting a Bichon Frise from Small Dog Rescue to play with their dog Zachary, but he turned out to be a Prairie Dog (see picture) instead”. Every one who meets him wants to keep him! He is wonderful. Submitted by Valerie and Ron, September 29, 2009
Billy Shears Update | ![]() ![]() ![]() Billy is doing great! He thinks he is king of the hill. LOVES the porch and backyard. He is literally bouncing around. He jumps up with all fours off the grounds and is so happy. He has learned to play with toys and chases Sam [the previous dog] around the table...very fast!.. Sam and he are having a blast. It is so good to see Sam perky again. And...it is so good to see Billy Bob opening up. He has bloomed. He is amazingly perfect. He sleeps with me and when he gets to hot he crawls over the chair onto the couch. He isn't the one to wake me up... Sam is...Billy holds it until we get up. He's so good and has, as I said, moved in totally! When he turned on his back to Sam and finally let me rub his tummy I knew he thought he was home. He is an arrogant little cuss but the pride of this house. I totally love your organization and how wonderful you are to the animals and also to the people that adopt. Thanks for all your help and being so kind. Submitted by Donna, September 14, 2009
Tippy Update | ![]() It is hard to believe that we have had Tippy for almost 3 years. This spoiled little "princess" (her opinion!) gets lots of attention, but at heart she remains a fearful little dog who barks at the smallest disturbance, who backs away from strangers, and who will bite your heels as you leave - Coal Mountain doesn't label her a "code red" dog for nothing! In spite of this, there has been real progress. Though totally attached to me, her Mom, she shamelessly begs for tummy rubs from Ed (Dad) and Ellery (Son), and there are now times when she does not bark at them - this as opposed to ALWAYS barking at them. For myself, it was not love at first sight - this hippo-shaped little dog who grunts in her sleep and barks all the time can be a royal pain - but when she displays unconditional love, follows you everywhere, smiles, bats her big brown eyes and insists that you save her from the rest of the world, how can you refuse? We would be devastated if anything happened to her. With the run of the house and yard, lots of toys to chew (we learned our lesson!), and Freddy to harass (she runs circles around him and races him to the door), Tippy's tail is usually wagging a mile a minute. And she is really a little trooper. We have had many changes this past year - packing for a move that never happened, Freddy's failing eyesight and arthritis, and the addition of household members. Nothing fazes Tippy, even when the rest of us are stressed out. Tippy is truly happy and we are her Forever Family. Submitted by Michaelene, September 14, 2009
Millie Update | ![]() We adopted Millie about 6 weeks ago and she has captured all of our hearts! She is such a sweet, playful girl. She loves to play with all of her toys and with her family. She loves to go on walks in the neighborhood and at the park. She has made friends with her grandma's dog and they get along well. We are so thankful to Smalldog Rescue for bringing us together with Millie. She is our little baby and we are so thankful to have her in our family! Submitted by Scott, Cindy, Emily and Dan, September 07, 2009
Chassis (Watusi) Update | ![]() ![]() ![]() Today is Chassis's third birthday! (Or really, two years since the day I adopted her, when she was about a year old.) Thought you might enjoy some pics from our little celebration. She is the best dog in the world and I just love her to death. Thanks, Submitted by Brooke, September 09, 2009
Ronald Reagan (Ronnie) Update | ![]() ![]() We adopted Ronnie about a month ago and have to say "What a Great Dog"!! He is just so happy, always wagging his tail. And boy does he love his rawhide bones and toys. He will run from room to room flipping his bone or toys around. We have 2 adult cats in the house as well, and Ronnie did a good job learning to get along with them, (more so the cats learning to get along with him). He just wants to play with them. Ronnie also gets along very well with the other dogs in our neighborhood. He loves when we take our neighbor's dog, Pumpkin along for walks with him. At night we all sleep together in bed, cats and dog, what a site! Ronnie loves to wake up earlier than us and tug on the covers and let us know to get up. He truly is a wonderful dog and we are happy that he is our new family member. Thank you Small Dog Rescue!! Submitted by Linda and Chris, August 28, 2009
Buddy (formerly Carlo) Update | ![]() I adopted Buddy (aka Carlo) and he is the joy of my life. He had some "human trust" issues but we have come so far and we are both blessed by finding each other. Buddy now plays with his toys, plays in his backyard, chases me instead of my chasing him and both of our lives are enriched because of meeting each others needs. He runs around like a "pampered pooche in his new home and I am so thankful for SmallDog Rescue and all the work you guys do to save these wonderful blessings. Thank you seems so inadequate but everytime I am in Petco, I make a donation in your container and Buddy and I have something special planned for you guys for Christmas. Please continue to care for these little guys and THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Submitted by Carol, August 1, 2009
Doodles (formerly Dietrich Buxtehude) Update | ![]() ![]() Last Saturday we finally found the perfect dog thanks to Kay and the others at the Small Dog Rescue. "Doodles" as my son named him is wonderful. He is taking to life with my other dog and our family like a champ. He is the most affectionate and loving dog. I wanted to thank all those of you at this wonderful group for the work you do. Submitted by Deborah, July 28, 2009
Bailey (formerly Hugh Jackman) Update | ![]() Bailey Gordon, formerly know as Hugh Jackman, was adopted by us in April 2009. He was a scrawny 12 pounds, having come from a puppy mill, and was very shy, reserved, timid and somewhat a scared little fellow. He is now a happy, healthy, funny, outgoing, rambunctious little guy weighing in at 22 pounds and is a complete joy to have around. He loves to play with his Kong Wubba and flying disc. He runs so fast he flips head over heels trying to slow back down to catch it! He is smart and is in “school” learning lots of new commands and tricks. We are as lucky to have him, as he is to have found us. Submitted by Angela and Bill, July 29, 2009
Fergie (formerly Margaret) Update | ![]() My name is Kerrie K. I adopted Fergie a little over 5 years ago. She was originally called Margaret but I had to change he name because my mum is also named Margaret. Her new name is Ferguson Toodles Knudsen but we call her "Fergie". She is quite the character and has been a absolute joy to have. Fergie also has a big problem with her heart, which in turn is causing problems with her liver. We have taken her to the UGA Vet school and also North Carolina State, where several cardiologists spent a week looking at her. They had to consult with a pediatric surgeon at Duke University in order to diagnose her. The diagnosis was a vena cava artery that is malformed. It does not connect the liver to the heart as it should. The prognosis is uncertain. We have decided against heart surgery because Fergie is still a very happy (but cheeky) dog and the doctor said it would be foolish to take such a risk when the little porker is still so healthy and happy. She also snores quite loudly but we don't believe that has anything to do with her heart. We know Fergie will always be on medicine to treat her heart and her liver. The problems with Fergie have made us appreciate her even more. We will always be glad that you gave us the opportunity to help Fergie. Submitted by Kerrie, June 18, 2009
Pip (formerly Orlanda Gibbons) Update | ![]() I adopted Pip on June 13th. He is the most adorable (everybody says so!) poodle / maltese mix. This is Pip sitting in the shade of a friend's tomato plant. It's hard to believe that it has only been 5 weeks, it feels like much longer. Pip has settled into his new routine very well. He loves to go on walks, plays chase in the yard and is slowly working out what toys are. It took about 4 weeks, but potty training is finally kicking in (yay!). He's 6 years old so it was always going to take a while. He also likes his cuddle time - what more could you ask for? A puppy mill dog does take a lot of patience, love and understanding, but the rewards are immeasurable. Submitted by Sarah, July 18, 2009
Maggie Update | ![]() We adopted a beautiful black and silver min schnauzer from you all last year, Maggie, who is 10. She came from a breeder in KY who had neglected her. Although she had to have a lot of teeth removed, she does very well eating her food, cookies and treats. She loves it here with her schnauzer brothers and sisters: Otto 14, Zack 8 and Hillary 8. They all get along great and are very comical to see piled up sleeping together on the couch or chaise lounge( see attached photo-- top from bottom: Otto, Hillary, Maggie and Zack)) in our bedroom or playing outside in the back yard. Monday was her birthday and they all got hamburger meat with their dog food and Maggie got a red wiener doggie squeak toy that she loves. We are so glad she joined our family. Submitted by Donna, July 18, 2009
Molly (formerly Ibisis) Update | ![]() ![]() I got Ibisis, now Molly, in January. She is such a joy! She sleeps with us every night, but the minute we wake up in the morning, she leaps out of bed and scratches on my mother-in-law’s bedroom door. My mother-in-law is blind and disabled and stays in bed much of the day. Molly has made her so happy, and has really upgraded the quality of her life. We’ll be at the picnic, so you can see for yourself how cute she is. Submitted by Joan, July 15, 2009
Amos (fomerly WinterWonder) Update | ![]() We adopted Amos (formerly Winter Wonder) in June 2005 and Maybe (formery Jace) in February 2009, both from Small Dog Rescue. Amos, a Boston/Chihuahua mix, lives to play fetch and tug, and Maybe, a Boston/Frenchie mix, would be happy spending all day chewing sticks or riding in the car. Amos and Maybe have become best buds. They love to play together but they also love to take trips to visit their other dog friends. Not a day goes by when they don't make us laugh. Here's a picture of the two of them on vacation at my parents' house in Florida. (Notice Maybe is keeping tabs on Amos by holding onto his tail!) Thanks, Small Dog Rescue, for helping complete our family! Submitted by Kristen, July 15, 2009
GeorgeClooney (formerly Obsidian) Update | ![]() ![]() Just wanted to give an update on my boy-George Clooney (formerly Obsidian). We have been together now for almost 4 years and I can't believe I ever made it without him! I can't imagine loving anything more than I love my George. He is truly my best friend and constant companion. He coaxes me out of bed every morning with sweet little nudges begging to go for our morning walk. And if I have a bad day, no one can make it all melt away like seeing my George! Thank you just does not seem like enough to say for bringing George to me. He has made my life so much more fun and I love and cherish him more everyday. Submitted by Tina, July 15, 2009
Riley Update | ![]() The picture shows Riley celebrating his 4 year anniversary with his brother and 3 sisters as well as his Nashville cousin(a rescue) and Lawrenceville, GA cousins. Riley is the one in the center with his eyes closed just relaxing in a line of Bichons. My wife and I came to the SmallDog Rescue day because my wife's sister, Carol called us and told us about Riley who really needed a family to rescue him. Riley had been to many rescue days and had not been adopted. We saw Riley and were told of all the problems Riley currently had. Riley didn't like men, children, could not be housebroken, was food aggressive, suffered seizures, did not like any other dog, just to name a few. My wife and I felt like we were his last chance, and we took him without question. He would be our first rescue. Less than a month later, this is the Riley we had. Riley showed no aggression towards any men. When we took our evening walks, our neighbors three year old granddaughter would come running up to Riley to give him a big hug. Riley's tail would just wag. I could give her Rileys leash and he would walk right beside her, even though we had a number of dogs and people with us. I can put my nose right in front of him and all I get are kisses. Riley has never shown any aggression to any of our bichons and for Riley's anniversary, we had 8 bichons in the house for 6 days. Riley suffers from late stage heart disease and we have him on two med's for that, a fluid pill and seizure medicine. With all that, Riley is a very happy boy who is loved by his mom and dad and bichons brothers and sisters. My wife and I feel sure that Riley would not still be around if we hadn't come along, so Riley is lucky for that. But we are the lucky ones because of the love he gives back. Riley is on a limited time line now, so we celebrate each day we get out of bed and Riley is still with us.
I'll finish this with one more thing. After Riley, we rescued Lucy, Chloe and Jodi. We now have 5 bichons is our Salisbury NC home
and 4 are rescues. Riley's Aunt Carol who is a volunteer with SmallDog thinks that is a fine trend!
