Become a Volunteer

All members of SmallDog Rescue family are volunteers. There are many different ways in which our volunteers donate their time, such as fostering dogs, transporting dogs, screening applications, training other volunteers, assisting at adoption events, fundraising, etc.

What is required to be a volunteer for SmallDog Rescue?

There are several minimum requirements for all SmallDog Rescue volunteers. Most importantly, volunteering for SmallDog Rescue requires a strong desire to be part of the solution to pet overpopulation, as well as having a love of dogs. In addition, all new volunteers must complete the Volunteer Engagement Process, which consists of:
  • Step 1: Successfully complete the online volunteer application
  • Step 2: If accepted, complete the required training curriculum for your role
  • Step 3: Have a ball helping us save the lives of hundreds of dogs in Georgia!

Volunteers must commit to a six-month volunteer engagement with SmallDog Rescue. This means that the volunteer will work at 2 adoption events the first month and at least one event for the next 5 months.

Other requirements depend upon the desired role.Volunteers who wish to help with other, specific tasks, such as clerical work, specific fundraising opportunities, public relations for community events, and etc., must complete the online volunteer application and attend the “Phase One” orientation curriculum. Specific teaming with another volunteer or specialized training may also be required, in addition to approval by the Board of Directors.

Whatever role interests you, it all starts with the Volunteer Online Application. Once completed, your application will be reviewed. If your application is accepted and we have an open position, you will be notified within 10 days with information on the next steps. What are you waiting for?
